From Networker 6 on the client is "Cluster aware"
It knows when you are on a cluster and there you need a file /etc/cmcluster/.nsr_cluster which has the following entries:
Package:IP:Mountpoints
Example:
MachineA, MachineB, Package1, Package2
.nsr_cluster looks like this...
Just maybe one point - are you sure your routing is alright?
Do you have more than one network on your backup server and / or backup client?
If yes, maybe you should try the name of the machine in the different network.

Another approach would be to look when was the last "full" backup of the directory, then change to this "browse time" and then recover from there.
I know it's a bit confusing - you know where you are but not when. So maybe it might be easier to use the commandline tool...
But it could give you another trouble, when using cluster clients...
Be sure to include the names of the physical machines in the aliases, else you run into a timeout without really being one.
Say you have "machineA" and "machineB" and a cluster package...

thank you for the info, but as it looks we have to reconfigure our jukebox because all drive paths change - solaris has different naming conventions than hp ux.
Only the clients would be affected. And all our clients are configured to use the /nsr/res/servers file, which could be...
Hi
and thank you...
to TDun:
This is not an option, because this laptop is only the first to be backed up... most of the "superiors" in my company would like to save their data.
to ag100:
As I've seen this asm is already included in 6.2 and 6.1.3 - but how is it possible to set the...
Hello,
I am just trying to create a batch job to backup data from a laptop. But I need the data encrypted - simple backup is not safe enough.
Using the windows GUI I can provide a password and select the files to be encrypted. I've even found the local directive - with the crypted password...
One thing to remember would be - Networker is a Unix product (at least that's where its roots are) and it is really network centric. What you absolutely need is a perfectly working DNS, everything else is almost unusable.
Open VMS Clients are rather new, and were provided by a third party...
You need to give the second NIC an own IP with an own name and use that name as storage node name.
e.g.:
NIC1: 192.168.0.1 machine
NIC2: 192.168.1.1 machine-backup
and give your clients machine-backup as storage node
that should work and redirect the traffic to the second nic
It might not be the recommended way of cleaning up - but as I said before editing is the easiest and fastest way.
In our environment it would not easily be possible to delete and recreate the jukebox - 2 Jukeboxes with 22 physical drives - 56 shared drives with together about 3800 tapes
as it...
jlh16, thats true, but how do I ensure that the clients inside the firewall don't use ports which should be used from clients outside the firewall.
Johanes
Hi wallace88
thank you for your hint - just did it and ended up with what I thought it would be.
save sets reports all data on tape, regardless of the state.
To get all data, that is accessible you have to take the amount in save sets and discount the amount in purged.
So I have really 570 GB...
Thank you for the suggestion. We're going to upgrade next week - if anything drastic happens I will write.
Our last upgrade almost killed us :-) 6.0.2 to 6.1
Hi there,
we've got a stupid idea - at least thats my impression after reading the manual.
We want to backup clients through a firewall.
We have a DataZone behind our firewall and want to backup clients outside of it. Is there anyone doing this?
I've looked at the documentation about ports to...
Hi jmdoc66
only editing "Loaded Slots" might work - but to be on the safe side, you should also edit:
"Loaded Barcodes"
"Loaded Slots"
and after doing so, you should issue a
nsrjb -vEH
just to sort things out.
johanes
hmmm... that does not really help me :-(
What I wanted to know if the line with "purged" is there additionally or not.
do I have 570 GB + 552 GB purged data on tape or
do I have 570 GB data on tape where 552 GB are purged and no more available.
that means 570 GB - 552 GB = 18 GB...
Hi there,
we have currently a very strange problem - our Networker 6.1.2 on Solaris 5.7 sometimes does not start a group - trying to restart gives us a group already running error, although the group definitely is not running anymore.
No save, savepnpc, or anything else processes indicating a...
Hi there,
I am currently trying to sort out which client is backing up how much data. Using the command: mminfo -aX gives me all I want, but what I do not know is:
is save sets the amount of real backed up data, which is accessible for recover, or is it all backed up data including the already...
Until now I did not encounter that problem,
but maybe it is a buffer overflow problem (more than say 1k characters per command)
Try splitting the update into several lines.
Johanes
Hi there,
I am afraid there will be no other way. If it were a silo you might try to use STL device sharing. It can be found in the nsrjb.res. Have a look at man nsr_jukebox. If it works with the L180 - which I don't know it might be a possible solution.
But think about what happens if both...
