Outlook won't open messages in new window!

When i 2x click a message in my inbox, the window does not physically appear. I see the window in my window menu, my main window becomes 'inactive' ( I can switch - cycle - back to it) but it will not appear. This happens in my calender as well... I am running 10.2.3, panther and outlook 2001...

    Master pages problems

I was trying to re-create your dilemas. Here is what I found: 1. I tried just throwing some guides on and got the same results. Are you setting up your masters with a "facing page" set up? If so, do the same grids on BOTH pages in your master, then they will show up. Seems if it's a...

    id prepress/print layout

I do a 180 page coupon book. It has a different stock for the cover than the interior. What I do is use the plug-in for InDesign called Ibooklet. I work in readers spreads with two pages side by side (it reads 1, 2-3, etc. the first and last pages are by themselves. The first two and last two...

transparent background images -> printing and color problems

Thank you Kim, but we don't use alpha channels when processing our images. We color correct to match our Printers specs, silo and make a full size jpg of the original file for back up then put the eps in our server. We've been doing it that way since we were in Quirk..um I mean Quark. Lvixen

transparent background images -> printing and color problems

Just a sidenote, when I said Printer I meant machine, not printing press. I know presses are just CMYK. My partner has been in the printing business for over 25 years, I asked him about it. Our company prints over 25 million circulars a week. I don't know everything, but that much I do know, <grin>

transparent background images -> printing and color problems

To silo an image is to silhouette, (cut away the background) so that just the object appears. This is done in photoshop. You create a path using the pen tool, save said path and make it a clipping path. Then save the image as an eps format. When you import into InDesign, you will only see the...

transparent background images -> printing and color problems

The CMYK issue is that most printers print in cmyk, not RGB. RGB is mainly used for web work and other specific applications. I don't know how much difference there will be but there is an option in the print dialog box under "Output" that gives you a choice of Composite RGB instead of...

Images lost when I export to PDF

I would like some more info on this project. What is the size of the finished poster? What is the dpi of your images? Are you working with RGB image or CMYK? What are the sizes of the photos compared to the actual usage size?

Images lost when I export to PDF

Is that one photo that shows up NOT a psd file? We use either tiff or eps format Photoshop images without a problem. Try changing a couple of the images, then replace on the poster, redo the pdf and see if they show up. If so, problem solved. To make the changeover faster, create a photoshop...

Cannot proof with image size less than 100%

I work on circulars and coupon books and we resize images in ID all the time. If it's throwing out the file it could be because your printer doesn't have enough memory to hold the whole document at once. I have that problem with the 180 page document. Lots and lots of photos. You could try what...

    Achieving edge crispness in pdf

which settings are you using to create your pdf? Are you sending the pdf's for printing? Or is it for posting on the web? If it's for printing, are you using the printing pdf style? If it's for the web..maybe just do a custom setting a little higher than the 72dpi default. Maybe that will work.

    Working with spot colors

I have a question, why are you making the output an eps? Are you sending it to be printed? What are you doing with it?

embedded tif in ill eps cropped in indesign

We have had issues with eps formats with InDesign. (such as white backgrounds instead of transparencies) The solution is to save the file as an .ai file instead of eps. Try that and see if it works. I realize you made a tif of the whole thing, but personally I would be curious to see if it would...

    printing limitation?

Just a note. I do a 180 page coupon book with hi resolution images. When the book is complete (or just about) I cannot print to our printers as a single document. The file is just too large for the cache or whatever you want to call it. I print in sections. It works fine. Just in case once the...

    Newspaper production in ID

I work in Advertising for CVS/pharmacy. We just recently changed over from Quark to ID. The production staff was very nervous (obviously)of having to learn a new program while maintaining the insane production schedule. I was expecting a lot more grumbling and issues. It's gone rather smoothly...

    Color Swatch/Conversion Issues

We are running into a strange color problems. Some color swatches cannot be removed from the palette (not colors that are in use, or at least as far as we know) while we have another that shows up as white, but in actuality is a red. Does anyone know how to locate where the color is in use? Any...

    Resizing placed graphics

Select the box with the selection tool. If you want the box to fit the object use the key command Shift-command-C, if you want the content to fit the box you've created, it's Shift-command-E. Also, to easily switch between the select and direct select, with no boxes selected (or at least if you...

Converting Quark Docs into InDesign Docs

I don't know if this is the problem but you don't have to save the Quark document as a Template. Just open InDesign and go file...open and choose the document. It will open in ID. Just a small word of warning, we've found problems translating Quark documents that have runarounds on them. I would...

    Working with Images

Have you used anything other than ID for layout? (Being a former Quark user, I find the Help files very helpful, I've found about 80% of my questions answered there.) PDF files are flattened so it won't retain transparency, at least not in my experience. If I may ask, why would you want it to...

Newbie, InDesign for building Yellow Pages?

I'm back. Yes, you can place a graphic inside with the text and have it move with the changes. When putting text in, place the cursor and use the command - d to place the graphic. As you return, it will move with the rest of the copy. If your formatting is simple, say a left justified column...
