I 100% agree!
Getting them to answer mindless questions about inane technical details isn't really the point. Rather to see how they respond to a little pressure, some conversation, some new things, etc. To get them to talk so you can get a feel for their personality and compare it to how...
All the calls to x220 (CEO) actually ring on x218 (Exec Admin) and x210 (Admin Assist).
Then if neither answer, it leaves a message on x220, with the CEO's voice.
However, it is the Exec Admin's job to pick up his messages. But she never knows when there is a message that she missed. So...
Agreed with dwmatteson!
Its not about tons of years of experience. It is about maybe a couple years of good experience, a great work ethic, and a desire to learn and keep pace (or faster) with this changing environment.
I know a lot of people with 25+ years of computer management...
Here are a bunch of questions that Microsoft is reported to ask.
Not my content... but really great questions. You could fill up a few days of interviewing if you wanted to.

But no one has x220 to see the message...
Yea that looks like it would work, but the AuxBox and light are like $500 total. For that price I could put almost 4 phones on that person's desk!
I think its overkill, but a very unique idea...
Perhaps I could put a T7316 (phone with display light built in) in an out of the way place...
Unfortunately without a whole lot of extra info, the only suggestion I have is the classic Microsoft answer... reboot your machine.
Take a look at the number of applications you have open and the "busy-ness" of your workstation in terms of memory usage, processor usage, and disk...

***The Scenario***
******************
We have an extension with its own mailbox (for example: x220) that doesn't have a phone associated with it.
That extension currently rings at stations x210 and x218 simultaneously and with no answer goes to voice mail in the x220 box...
