i have a laptop with outlook 2k that is set to have offline access to mail from my exchange 5.5 server, so basically outlook syncs itself with exchange. now suppose i lose the info store on exchange and recreate one from scratch... will outlook try to dump all that email back into exchange when...
SQLBill, yeah the first thing sql server installation told me was that it needs sp3a... so i figured i'd get all the databases moved over and then upgrade to sp3a...
otherwise this server isnt actually in use except for me moving databases over and so far, nothings exploded (yet).
thanks for the advice guys,
1- All drives letters remain the same
yes, the drives will have the same letters.
2- You copy all your data files and directory structures to the new server.
sql server is installed on C: the logs are in D: and the databases are on E:... I'll copy over the...
hi, i was wondering if it's possible to move the system dbases (master, msdb, and so on) to another new server? The old server was NT4 with SQL Server 2000 sp2... the new server is Win2k3 with SQL Server 2000 sp2. is there anything in the system dbases that would prevent them from running on a...
ok, read up on sp_addlogin, but now i cant figure out what the sids were on the old server. i looked at the master db table sysusers, but all sid entries are shown as <binary>. whats going on here?
thanks again
i copied a few databases to a new server (both sql server 2k) and realized that i need to somehow move the accounts over from the old server. is there a safe way to do this? can i just recreate the accounts again on the new server and manually specify the sid?
thanks
yes, it has a static IP address... i switched it back to DHCP just so I could do other work on it. I tried switching back to a static IP, but this time, I did release/renew several times before hardcoding the IP and now everything finally works! thanks!
ok, not a permission problem... when I switch back to DHCP everything works... but when i set a static IP (say 192.168.1.100) then clients can no longer access the shares... even weirder is when i ping the server from a client, they think the server is at ip 1.203 instead of 1.100...
ive tried...
hey, trying to get win2k3 setup to share files. I created a folder and tried using the wizard to create a share and then tried doign it manually (right click folder, share, set perms, then go to security and set more perms)...
from the 2k3 machine itself, it can browse the network and access...
as for moving the databases, just curious since i am still really new to SQL Server, can i use the backup/restore in sql server? so run a backup of the db and transaction log, move them over to the new machine, and then restore?
when a full backup is done, am i correct in thinking it is a...
thanks for the reply... i would like to go about this by causing as little disruption to the existing NT server as possible... i havent applied the sp3 patch yet to the new server... the only reason why i was going to was because win2k3 warns it only supports sp3. i guess i could try moving it...
hi, i have an sql server 2k sp2 running on NT4 with databases I'd like to move to an sql server 2k sp3a machine running win2k3. yes, shame on us for not staying current with the service packs, but we have our reasons and our server is completely cut off from the world. anyways, i was wondering...

well, ask yourself what distro(s) you are the most comfortable with right now and go from there. personally i think a distro with a good package manager like gentoo or debian would be good choices.
I am running Brightstor Arcserve v9 and the backups of our SQL server usually go off without a problem. We have the SQL agent installed and we have not made any configuration changes or user/password changes to any accounts. Once in a while, a backup will come back with job status failed with...
