    Windows 2k3 file sharing?

yes, it has a static IP address... i switched it back to DHCP just so I could do other work on it. I tried switching back to a static IP, but this time, I did release/renew several times before hardcoding the IP and now everything finally works! thanks!

    Windows 2k3 file sharing?

ok, not a permission problem... when I switch back to DHCP everything works... but when i set a static IP (say 192.168.1.100) then clients can no longer access the shares... even weirder is when i ping the server from a client, they think the server is at ip 1.203 instead of 1.100... ive tried...

moving an SQL Server 2k sp2 dBase to sp3...

thanks for the reply... i would like to go about this by causing as little disruption to the existing NT server as possible... i havent applied the sp3 patch yet to the new server... the only reason why i was going to was because win2k3 warns it only supports sp3. i guess i could try moving it...

suggest linux distribution for network monitoring

well, ask yourself what distro(s) you are the most comfortable with right now and go from there. personally i think a distro with a good package manager like gentoo or debian would be good choices.

    8604 Failed to start backup.

I am running Brightstor Arcserve v9 and the backups of our SQL server usually go off without a problem. We have the SQL agent installed and we have not made any configuration changes or user/password changes to any accounts. Once in a while, a backup will come back with job status failed with...
