In Morovia Code39 fonts you can use = to get the space. Having barcode pattern to spaces could bring many problems, and most of barcode font vendors choose other symbols in the place of space.

Yes you can encode function keys/control characters using Extended Code 39 or Code 128. Note that not all barcode utilities support special character input. Morovia Code 39 and 128 Font products have this feature. For more information visit here:
