    100M wireless bridge recomendation

Great!, sorry for the delay getting back, been one of those weeks. One of the builings is in a unserviced area as far as high speed internet, so I am trying to bridge web and LAN to the other building. The price point on the Nano gear is almost too good to be true, especially compared to...

    100M wireless bridge recomendation

I am doing a setup for 2 buildings, diagonally opposite sides of a street. The distance is about 100 meters, practicaly line of sight, maybe a partial tree blockage ( have not been on the roof of building #2 .) I would like to connect the existing LAN in building #1 to what will be in...

pass credentials to network share XP

Sorry for the delay in returning. linney I tried that as a what the heck, but no dice. I have been racking my brain trying to remember the way the change was made, and all I can recall was that it was some trust setting, where you check a box that says something like " always ask for a...

pass credentials to network share XP

Ok, I'm back, had no access to the machine for a bit. Tried mapping the drive, all works fine problem goes away, can "save as" in any program. So that hopefully narrows it down. I can't do a restore, it was ages ago that the change was made, were talking more than a year. Never noticed until...

pass credentials to network share XP

Good point, should have stated this.. yes, any other machine on the same network can use my account to access and "save as" to the shares in question. It only occurs on the one machine. I will check the folders and see if anthing looks odd.

pass credentials to network share XP

I think I tried that quite a while ago, not sure, but can do it again. I am not sure if it is a time out thing. Pretty sure if I do it, I can immediately try to close the "save as" window and I will get a not responding notification.

pass credentials to network share XP

The event log only shows the "hung application" events. It happens with any program, not just Microsoft applications. checked the links linney, thanks, still stuck. When browsing to the share normally, I am not asked for user id / password.

pass credentials to network share XP

Hi, this using windows credentials, drilling down to the folder, no mapping. Odd bit also, you don't get asked to log in, the application just dies at the "save as" directory pop-up window. Thanks

pass credentials to network share XP

I hope I can explain this correctly, here goes.. I have access to network shares on a file server, that if I browse via my network places, I can open, save to and modify the contents of the shares. I have full rights to the shares in question. Client is XP Pro, server Win2003, as file server...

    wake on LAN not working

Got it sorted... Turns out that I needed to change a setting in the PXE control and in the BIOS config. First I had to enable PXE/DHCP linking to the planar NIC in BIOS. Then, in the PXE control, I had to enable "legacy non-windows support for the planar NIC." Not sure why it all worked...

    wake on LAN not working

Hi I have an IBM xSeries 232, type 8668 that is running R2. Previously it ran Red Hat, and CentOS, as a file server, and in both cases it would start via WOL. After installing R2, it does not wake up from a standard shutdown. This machine is being used as an "archive" and does not need to be...

    Iexplore.exe as process, no window

True, and would have thought that this kind of crippling bug would have reared its head and been dealt with early. Maybe it was just a fluke of application combinations on my particular machine. There was a ms kb article about it, #916245, but for some reason it is no longer available. There...

    Iexplore.exe as process, no window

Embarassingly I forgot to reply back to this thread, you know, life, job, etc, LOL. Anyways I trieds the above suggestions, no dice. But I did find the problem! The Google Toolbar... go figure. Removed it and problem solved. I don't even miss it.

    Iexplore.exe as process, no window

Hi, randomly when I launch IE ( ver 6, sp2, all updates )from toolbar or start menu, the process is launched, but there is nothing on the desktop. I can end it with task manager, then clicking the same shortcut will launch it correctly. Ran an AV scan, did Adaware, Spybot, all come back clean...

    vpn on second NIC

Well , no joy from the previous set-up. I have tried IP filters on the RAS server's second NIC ( the one used for VPN ) in an effort to isolate the first NIC Telnet issues, and still no luck. Something very weird is going on with the Telnet software that runs on the LAN. It simply refuses to...

    vpn on second NIC

Over the weekend I set up and took down RAS several times, always with the same result, so hopefully I think its setup OK now. After getting nowhere, I thought maybe I can subnet with this cheap router. Well, I seem to have got lucky with my D-Link DI-604. It lets me set a mask of...

    vpn on second NIC

hmm, still no joy. I tried using the second NIC with an IP of 192.168.0.200, just to make sure all the hardware and settings with it are OK, and the VPN works. But this still disables the telnet access to the first NIC at 192.168.0.1 , so the solution still needs to be found. I am thinking...

    vpn on second NIC

thanks for the idea, but would placing the second NIC at 192.168.10.5 not be enough? This worked for the clients, placing them on similar ranges, so that they would not conflict with the LAN IP range.

    vpn on second NIC

Hi I'm sure someone here can sort this for me, I'm stumped! Equipment: Win2000 server, XP Pro clients, LAN, DSL via Router. I have set up VPN using the original single NIC, was able connect, browse folders, etc. Router was set to forward VPN ports to the NIC, everything worked. ( and the...

opening mpeg files on samba server

I now think it is the extension designation also, but for the life of me I can't break the connection. I use irfan for viewing, and it runs fine on the XP machine, but gives me the error if I try opening via Samba. Maybe I will check out Zoom. Thanks! ( too bad you couldn't just type " kill...
