    More fun signs

    Thanks anotherhiggins. I'm an idiot.

    More fun signs

I've seen this also. I thought it was a mistake when I first came across it. But I think the idea is that you read the words as you get to them in your car. That way you read STOP and then AHEAD. It looks incorrect when taken together (AHEAD over STOP) but not if they are read this way. My...

Advice on how to break out of feast or famine situation.

Are you making enough money to add staff? If the answer to that is yes, I'd recommend hiring someone to handle the sales and general office operations. Answering customer calls and screening, making sales calls that sort of thing. I wouldn't think about outsourcing the programming. As you...

    Swearing that isn't

I used the phrase "cheese and crackers" this weekend. The sad part of the whole thing was the first thing I thought of was posting it on here...

    Swearing that isn't

I work with a woman who uses the phrase "holey buckets". When I was a young one and in High School we would use "sunny beach" when there were adults present. Now there is a country song that made the phrase "some beach" popular for the same reasons.

How about Associate? I hear that used quite a bit now. FYI - our docs are called End User Procedures. I guess we're a little behind the the PC dept.

    Equipment Purchases (Co or Individual)

Our company tried to issue cell phones and take care of them for the IT dept but it was too much of a hassle. Now you are responsible for expensing your bill. That seems to work fine for us.

    Re entering workforce

Look for a support type position in a small company. A lot of times smaller companies are more willing to take a chance and do more on the job training. Also, you will get to know the other people in the company and have a better chance at advancing.

Good Books for the IT Business Analyst

Well I do a lot of things. Mostly I support JD Edwards by working with users to identify things that need changed or added. I then take action to get these things taken care of. Which means different things. Could be as little as making a change to a field myself all the way to requesting...

Good Books for the IT Business Analyst

I know there are some members here who are, or have been, BAs. I would like to know what books you guys have read that you would recommend for me. I have been a Business Analyst for about 6 months now and am trying to find ways to better myself in this role. Any help would be appreciated.

    I'm never "fine" anymore.

I heard "Better than I deserve" a while back and try to use that one sometimes. But typically I just throw out a standard "Good". Our CEO likes to ask "How goes the battle?". My typical response: Bloody.

    Everyone Please Respond

ALT27 had it right. You shouldn't be sitting in the server room. You should have a seperate office and the server room should be locked at ALL times. That is what I would push for if possible. Our Network Admin had his office in the server room here until just recently. Our company was...

Navision - Importing Data from Excel

Have you tried using the len function in Excel before you import the file? =len(cell in question) You could even nest that in an If statement and have it display an error if the length exceeds 1024.

    Is this new position good?

It sounds like a good position with some opportunities for you. I don't know that I'd call it "better" than your peer's server admin job. It may be better for you and the direction you want to go with your career though. What sort of consulting do you want to get into? I would think you...

Trying to build a website for my small biz

Have you looked into FrontPage? I know it's a dreaded MS product, but from what I hear it's a pretty good WYSIWYG web site tool.

    Identify programs/applications dialing the internet

Norton should only look for updates when you connect via dial-up. I'd say you could have some nasty spyware on there. Hijackthis is definitely a good place to start. You might consider running Spysweeper also. I worked on a machine that was still on dial up and had some very nasty spyware on...

Find out what computer created a document.

Thanks frederico, Looks like the person had it open long enough on their machine for a couple of autosaves. This should be what I need.

Find out what computer created a document.

I have a document that I need to find the author of. But there's one problem. Our machines are imaged and all have the company name show up are the author of Word documents. Is there any way to find out what computer the doc was created on? Or am I stuck because the user info shows the...

    Me? I'm a threat?

Kmcginn's advice is very sound. The only thing I would add to it is; be honest. The next time you're in a situation where you feel like he may feel threatened, ask him if something is wrong. If he refuses to speak up just let him know that you feel like things have been a little strained...
