I couldn't resist sharing a quote from the late Joh Bjelke-Peterson (former Premier of Queensland, Australia). Joh was well known for mixing metaphors and being basically incomprehensible during tough political questioning. Please don't ask what he meant for I'm sure not even he knew!

Hi Uwe,
It has always been my experience that IDS will perform better utilising raw disks and I believe that the installation guide recommends raw disk as well (although I could be wrong on that point).
As for the maximum chunk size, according to the following page from IBMs' website with IDS...
Hi Gina,
It's been a while since I've worked with Informix however I believe the following will work:
INSERT into remote_db@IDS_server_name:table_name
SELECT * from local_table_name;

Hi bigdaddy01,
You may wish to have a look around www.iiug.org - there are an awful lot of scripts and programs for dbas in the software repository area, including a couple for ontape/onarchive.

Hi,
We used to run two distinct IDS 7.3x instances and insert data from one to the other via synonyms. Syntax, I believe, is:-
CREATE SYNONYM syn_name FOR remote_db@server_name:tab_name

Hi,
I'm not sure of the exact hardware you wish to run this on so have a look at the following link and you can check whether or not what you have in mind is certified for any of the SCO products, including UnixWare 7.x.

Hi again,
Just to fill you all in on the progress with the above.... marsd solution worked for me whilst I was getting data files for locations with a 3 character code (meaning there is one 0 to strip out prior to insert into a table). However once I starting getting files for locations with a...
Hi,
There is a download of IDS for Linux & Win2k available on the IIUG website, however you need to be a member.
Goto http://www.iiug.org, join up, go to the Member Area, then Downloads.

Hi All,
Sorry if this is a really dumb question, however I'm not the best at shell scripting (let alone awk!) and I've exhausted all other avenues. I would appreciate any asssistance!
Environment is NCR MP-RAS 3.02
I need to be able to do a couple of things to some ascii files that contain...
Hi Again,
With my last post I made an assumption that you are running IDS on some flavour of UNIX - if you are running IDS on NT you should check the documentation for the correct location of sm_versions file in case it's a little different in NT.
Cheers,
-gumbie.

Hi,
If you're running IDS 7.3x the bar_versions table is not held in the sysutils database anymore it is a flat file located at $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sm_versions.
You may wish to have a look at the Informix online documentation that can be found at http://www.informix.com - in particular you should...
