Turn your computer off, power down the switch and modem and then connect your wireless router betweeen your dsl modem and your switch. Hook any wired pc's to the switch and then turn your modem, switch and pc on. Also, if you have a firewall you will want to turn it off for the initial setup...
Thanks for the quick reply, it is appreciated. This is kind of frustrating though. Not like in a Server OS where you can restrict users and not affect anyone else. So the only way to effectively lock things down is either put people in the Users or Power Users group, correct? What is...
Using my Administrator account in XP Pro trying to make changes from the Group Policy snap-in.
I have been trying to put some restrictions on the Control Panel from the User Configuration in Group Policy. Any changes I make also affect the Admin acct. Why is this? Am I missing something?
The Bridge.dll file is a spyware file. Go to HKLM-Software-Microsoft-Windows-CurrentVersion-Run. Click on run, I bet you will see the bridge.dll file. I just went through this myself, it's a spyware file that has nothing to do with your system. Backup the key before you delete it if you want...
Thanks to "thedaver"...Your post got me to thinking about what I had been looking at when I did an ipconfig on that machine. I went over to my friends place and did it again. There was another connection showing. When I looked in Network Places there was an Icon for a Direct Line? Had usual...
The problem is that the computer will not get an internet connection unless it is behind a router. When hooked directly into the cable modem you have to inpconfig /release and renew to get a connection. Once you have a connection it will hold. If you reboot the machine you have to do the same...
A friend of my is having internet connection problems.
The computer is a new Dell running Win XP Home, no software firewall or XP firewall enabled, and no ICS, just a stand alone PC. We live in Alaska and get our service through GCI, it is very reliable and consistent. Have talked with their...
Try another known good card or buy a new one they are cheap to buy, check your RJ45 cable too. If you install a NIC disable the integrated one. The Bridge is for connecting different networks, if your running TCP/IP on all then it shouldn't really matter as long as they are all on the same...
I must be missing something here. I don't see how these other two computers can access the domain laptop at all, without having user accounts in that domain. Was there an earlier post I missed? If the workgroup computers are not part of the domain they shouldn't be able access anything...
You could try booting into Safe Mode with Command Prompt and use the System Restore utility to roll back the computer to an earlier time.
Boot to Safe Mode-Command prompt and type:
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe and then hit Enter
Hope this helps
Have you checked for updates within spybot to make sure you have all the latest? Have you used the immunize program in Spybot? You could also do a search in the registry for sandboxer and delete everything you find. Do a backup first just in case. Something is loading at startup it looks...
You don't say what OS you are using but if you are using win2000 or XP you can type mmc from the run box add a new snapin, add group policy. Many, many settings for IE that you can change from here along with many other user and computer settings.
Try this: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000465.htm
Try making the floppy disk first and see if you can boot, you should be able to, if so you can try and fix the OS or get at least get your data before you need to format. It should be fixable though using these techniques.
Like bcastner said, unplug the drive, reinstall. After install is done set the other drive to Slave, hook it up and boot. Windows will recognize the drive and assign drive letters.
Are you behind a router? If you are, try resetting it by powering it off and then on again, do the same if you are on a cable or DSL modem.
Are the lights on the NIC working? Maybe you have a bad NIC.
What kind of connection do you have? Dialup or Broadband?
Are you sure you are connected...
If you type "mmc" (without quotes) go to File-Add/Remove snap in, then click on add again and then pick the Group Policy snap-in you will be able to set all kinds of security settings, lock down the machine just about anyway you want to.
