ArcServe R15 Backup to Disk Device using Dedupe

as far as I know, FSD devices are seen as SCSI targets from CA_DEVMGR so you should be able to format them. It always worked with 'normal' FSD's, I was not able to test it out yet. Regarding the Dedup devices: keep in mind that CA advises to keep the data and the indexes on separate volumes.

ArcServe R15 Backup to Disk Device using Dedupe

If explained this way, you got a point configuring it the way you describe. As for formatting the devices: use the Job Scheduler Wizard (to be found in the utilities) to format the DeDup Devices on a 3 Monthly basis using the ca_devmgr format command (the Syntax for this can be found on the...

ArcServe R15 Backup to Disk Device using Dedupe

You are right that, when you make a massive data cleanup/move, you loose on the dedup figures. However, the same counts when you use the 3 months reusage of devices unless you do the data cleanup/move right before reformatting a dedup disk. You are also right that your first index will become...

Strange Exchange Database Level Backup Problem

Did you get any information from the ARCServe Exchange Agent logs or the Windows Syystem logs? Have you tried running only the Exchange Database backup (thus leaving the Document level part out) for at least 3 days ? Are there other processes running on the Exchange Environment (scheduled...

12.5 monthly backup at last friday of the month

In this case you need to create only one rotation (normal of GFS) job instead of several custom jobs. This way ARCServe knows of the relationship between full and differential backup jobs and will also use the media maximization feature the way you want it. regards

ArcServe R15 Backup to Disk Device using Dedupe

I understand from your configuration that you want to backup to disk media, keep it there for 6 Months and then overwrite the data. If this is the case why don't you create 1 disk device and purge the data from the dedupe device after 6 Months ? This way you'll have to configure it once and...

Commvault restore, tape not reconised, media explorer

Media Explorer is part of the Resource Kit which can be downloaded from CommVault. As far as I know there is no license required to use it. You do need a direct connection to the tape hardware and a Media Password if this is set from the CommCell level. regarding the age of the data...

Mutiple source tapes and single destination tape

using the tapecopy command line utility with the query (-q) options should be the way to consolidate data across tapes. The best way for you to find out whether it will suit your need is to check the whole syntax with the tapecopy /? command or the Appendix B (or is it C ?) in the CA ARCServe...

    Arcserve 6.0 on Netware 4.11 Dell VS122T

this is a so called DLT VS80 autoloader. I tried to find some information on ARCServe 6.0 but couldn't find it anymore. When I started with ARCServe it was the notorious version 7.0. At that time VS80 tape drives just came on the market (using DLTIV tape cartridges at half the speed of DLT8000...

    Best Practice using Staging Groups

What you want to achieve is a so called 'synthetic backup': running Full vs Incremental Backup operations to disk media and let the backup software create a full backup to tape media from the combined Full and Incremental back-up data. CA ARCServe cannot achieve this as there is no Synthetic...

Output to file or command line help

You can just setup a custom report and then save it with the right settings (save the settings before you submit, this should work). Using the Job Scheduler Wizard you can automate anything from within the ARCServe's GUI. regards

Output to file or command line help

maybe it is easier to use the Reportwriter utility for that. You can specify which information you want to collect and then create it in csv format which can be imported into a database. regards

Daily (4x) transaction logs to tape...

sorry for the late reply rlanders300 but there is a separate utility in ARCServe to achieve this. It is called JOBWINDOW.exe and can be found in the ARCServe base directory. It has a GUI and is pretty straight forward. hope this helps. regards

    Bab11.5sp4 block size

fabio, can you explain which blocksize you want to adjust ? for tape drives it is not advised to change the configured blocksize. When using backup to disk I would advise to format the Volume where you install you File System Device on with a 64k blocksize and leave the ARCServe settings to...

    Inherited old backup need tips

be sure that ARCServe is configured to use the Barcode reader. Normally a quick erase leaves the serialnumber untouched. When a barcode reader is available AND arcserve is configured to use it the serialnumber will always be available regardless of which erase method is used. regards

Lotus Notes restore on Arcserve 11.5 failure

the credentials required are for the New Domino Server. You have to provide a user with sufficient rights like the Domino Administrator when configuring the agent from the ARCServe GUI. Check the Lotus Notes/Domino Agent manual that comes with the r11.5 CD.

    Optimizing Exchange mailbox backups?

You might also consider breaking up the content of the document level iDA into multiple subclients. This will improve performance. I assume you backup the mailbox iDA to disk media (ie MagLib)? regards
