Hello,

i have an old exchange backup tape that i need to restore from.

The backup is only from a few months ago but the commserv does not recognise the tape, data must have been aged off.

from the looks of things i have to get the metadata into the commserv database but it requires the media explorer tool which we dont have a licence for.

is there any free way to get commvault to recognise this tape so i can restore data from it?

please help!

Media Explorer is part of the Resource Kit which can be downloaded from CommVault. As far as I know there is no license required to use it. You do need a direct connection to the tape hardware and a Media Password if this is set from the CommCell level.

regarding the age of the data. Regardless of the Data aging process CommVault will always recognise the tape unless the tape is manually deleted or the tape is damaged or written to by another backup application.

regards
