    Your opinion on Clones

There are three possible ways to do this Taking a monthly backup and sending the tapes offsite will be quicker but you have no guarantee that you will be able to restore from the tapes. Cloning the backup and sending the clones offsite will be slow and again you have no guarantee to be able...

    Recovery

I think it may be because in June the 15th fell on a Wednesday. If you try to recover during the period 16th -22nd, the date of the next full backup, you will require offline tapes from the backup on the 15th.

Solaris 8 system won't shutdown gracefully

Sometimes the system can spend a long time trying to unmount busy file systems. Why don't you put some echos in the /sbin/rc* scripts to see where it is getting to?

Solaris 8 system won't shutdown gracefully

The /sbin/rc* scripts run the equivalent /etc/rc*.d scripts before calling the uadmin command. The databases would be shut down at this point.

    Offsite Storage / Cloning

Further info... The clone tapes are all labelled CPxxxx and these are the only ones ejected and sent off line. I amended the second script to include the other tape labels in case I had to deposit other groups of tapes

    Offsite Storage / Cloning

These are the different tape labels PR0000, AR0000, PL0000 and CP etc... Will depend on your labeling standards

    Offsite Storage / Cloning

Ed, We send our clone tapes off site but don't remove them from Networker because of the short cycle time (2 weeks). I have attached a couple of scripts that I use to eject/deposit these tapes. This one ejects the clone tapes used in the past 24 hours and updates their location with the...

    Optimizing parallelism

Sorry, should have said set "Target sessions" on each drive to 1

    Optimizing parallelism

Try setting the parallelism to 1 on each drive. Apparently this allows the software to decide which drives to use.

    Help...Monitoring current backups?

You are correct, you cannot print out any of the reports in the downloaded version( 2.1 Beta). I assume that they are aware of this and are working on it for the official release at the end of May. I have not found out the cost yet, but it is based on the following so may be expensive:- 1. BOM...

    Help...Monitoring current backups?

Have a look at http://www.integrity-sys.com/ I have downloaded an evaluation copy of this software and am running it against Vn 6.0.1 on Solaris using the Nt gui on my PC. It seems to provide some of the reports you are looking for. I don't know the cost yet.

What does this error REALLY mean?

The two pools you are using come as defaults with Legato. I tried a little test by associating the group testing234 with the pool Full. the pool has no tapes associated with it and has the settings Pool type Backup and Label template Full. When I started the group I got the following message:-...

    Daylight Savings time

Found this on another forum for the same problem :- From Legato support: From your Time/Date properties click the Time Zone tab, uncheck the Automatically adjust for daylight savings changes box. Then adjust your time. Does it work ?

What does this error REALLY mean?

The bootstrap is saved to various different pools. See Extract Check your daemon.log for these messages and hopefully this will identify the backup that is using the default pool Extract from daemon.log 04/02/01 12:05:27 nsrd: sapprda:bootstrap saving to pool 'Long Term Archives' (AR0048)...

What does this error REALLY mean?

Calling the save command without specifying the -b (pool) option causes Legato to use the default group. Using the Networker User icon to backup files from the client also calls for the Default pool. I cannot find a way to change it. Also creating a new group and not associating it with any tape...
