    is the pabx dead

Interesting as all this may be, phoneguy610 has illustrated the basic point here. There isn't enough bandwidth - yet, and at reasonable cost to most consumers. There's the battle of the future, bandwidth. Once you deliver that reliably, the apps will follow. So far, this is not the case...

    is the pabx dead

Hi Matt, I think you called it there. Like, what kind of a response did hostedtelephone expect anyway? Like the vast majority of us here, job security isn't a worry. I don't get upset about that at all. I just become annoyed with a vendor who only knows how to sell on price and half truths...

    avaya ip office R8.03 licences

Hi kholladay, Yes. That has been my #1 go to tool for years now. I just love this one, and you can set it to only look for a certain port, which cuts down the list. I'm going to download the newest, since mine is a good 5 years old at at least now! -Chris

    avaya ip office R8.03 licences

Hi dzussy, Where did you get to with your hunting phones? That was easy for me to answer, but your next question is beyond me. I still have to finish these courses. As for DHCP, that's risky I think. Just about any device can grab a DHCP served address, and it doesn't have to be a phone...

    is the pabx dead

Hi hostedtelephone, Gee, I thought I was dealing with a connectivity professional. Silly me, I completely forgot to look at your job designation. Programmer. That says it all really as your responses are exactly what I here from those same disconnected IT pros. I'd say you're at least a...

    is the pabx dead

Hi hostedtelephone, Ahhh, business. Now there is a topic I know extremely well. A business is there to serve it's customer base and provide assistance in selecting the best solution for it's customers. It's not an extremely difficult concept to understand, but I see so many people getting...

    is the pabx dead

Hi hostedtelephone, We sell this solution, it is not acceptable for any high reliability applications. The "tin on the wall" is actually highly reliable. Hardware for better systems will run 15 ~ 20 years with few problems. How long does the average PC run? If your outside connectivity goes...

Nortel flash goes to factory default when power is lost

Hi hurstolds307, But since you posted the question ... There are memory backup batteries in most phone switches, computers and voice mail hardware. The most common type of information storage used was hard drive, but the "Flash" voice mail was ... you guessed it, flash memory. Information...

    avaya ip office R8.03 licences

Hi dzussy, You didn't mention if you assigned iP addresses or not. Personally, I'd rather not roll that DHCP dice. I tend to nail everything down as much as possible. This network here only has about 4 DHCP addresses to play with. Me happy, most things work great. Phone start-up after power...

Just coming back to work after 6+ years

Hi, Guys, thank you. It has been a heck of a long road back so far, but I'll get there. This is the official third attempt at coming back. At least they are giving me training to be current with the world. That's where I've been the last couple days. It is tiring. Problems going forward...

Just coming back to work after 6+ years

Hi All, It's been almost 7 years since I was taken out on the road returning from a job. Just trying to get back at it now. I lost my iP Office certification, so now it's time to be re-certified. Thank goodness insurance will cover the courses. It was a bad accident - everyone who drives...

    New "PATCH" available

Hi All, I did get the PM VS R5 working properly. It is necessary to use an ACS R3 to R6 to flash the voice mail unit. With the R2, the voice mail appeared to accept the program, and did report the correct revision level. I did use an ACS R4 to re-flash the voice mail. There was no problem...

    New "PATCH" available

Hi All, I think this (5.021) is a bust. I have tried everything and it's still a no go. Tried every slot in the cabinet (filling empties with 206 cards). I'll let you know what Avaya has to say next. I am waiting for tech support to return my call. -Chris

    New "PATCH" available

Hi tbw, The current release level for PM VS 5 is 5.021. Since we are in Canada, we did not get the 5.016 upgrade card. I liked it better when we were direct with Avaya. All, The voice mail accepted the upgrade, but the ACS R7 still does not recognise the unit. Now I am told to install a...

Hi All, I'm still fighting with this thing. The card programs, but the voicemail seems not to take. -Chris

And me as well. I still have to say that the little Partner is one of my favorite systems. I hope they don't spoil it. -Chris

    New "PATCH" available

Hi 1043, I'll let you know. Problem: The Partner Mail VS R5 does not initialize with the R7 uP at all. It powers up, flashes the light, then the light goes out. It works fine with a Partner plus R4.1 on the test bench in the same carrier. I now have a 206E between it and the uP. Ideas? -Chris

    New "PATCH" available

After speaking with Tech support, you need a green or yellow ACS backup/restore card. Erase it, flash and verify. Then you stick it into the voicemail and power up. When the smoke clears, turn the power off and reinsert the original card. Now, if it works. I should know by Tuesday. The...

    Partner Phone External Speaker

Hi dplotts, I hate to say it, but something like the Polycom Soundstation really is the best solution. Why not see if anyone has refurbs? Other solutions work until you get really sick of dealing with them, but it's up to you. How much is your time worth to look and try different things? -Chris
