You have USB-support for Mouse/Keyboard in BIOS activated, thats why it works that far.
It seems not to be that normal HW, Windows has generic drivers for that.
Did you try it on another USB-port/PC?

try to set the mtu to 1492 (if pppoe) or 1500 (if pppoa)

Best is eo boot from a Install-CD to the Recovery Console, from there you can chkdsk drive: /f /r

You already pinned it down to the router, to assure that connect one pc directly to the modem. if its ok then you have a dogy router, replace it.

That might be a faulty controller or just coincidence. What brand/make is the drive, wich software did you use to llf, what errormsg. come up when checking the drive with manufactors tool?

USB3.0 is backward compatible to USB2.0, so its an investment in future technologies. There is no need to update the whole rig for now, unless you rely on the max. speed you can get.

Where you unchecked "Allow.....", did you check "Apply settings, if applicable, to subfolders and files" ?
When you want to backup these folders, dont forget to add the account under wich the backup process is running, otherwise nothing will be backed up.

instead of domain logon you can use local logon (hit ctrl alt del once if you get the logon screen in case you dont get the choice)
