    I need to create a 20"x24 320dpi print from 12mp Sony A700...

Hi, your camera has an image of 4272 x 2848, that is a 1.5 ratio and you want one of 1.2 ratio. The only way for you is to cut off (crop) part of it. No other possibility except to distort it! The second problem regards the size of the image. Here you will have to use the interpolation...

    Batch Reduce mixed images

I don’t want to polemize but within Photoshop you are able to do what you want, even in a real automated batch, not what the program want for you. For example, I usually use an enhancement, needed by the reduction, using an overlay of a high pass copy-image rather than a “simple” sharpness...

    Batch Reduce mixed images

Ok Jim, there are several programs to do that, but usually at a basic level with few possibilities to control the process. The main advantage with Photoshop's batch is to retain all the fine controls offer by this soft.

    Batch Reduce mixed images

Hi, when I have such a resize to do, I begin the way mscallisto suggests. In fact, I make two directories: 1 with a copy of the images over 500px, the other with the smaller images I don't want to change. If not already done, I make a "action" with the resize I want and I start a batch...

    Your opinion, please!

The Cintiq is useful for some artistic composition, but its price is prohibitive for most of us. More, for "current" jobs, and even photo retouching, I prefer a two-screen system with an Intuos. For me, it's like to buy a Ferrari to go to the supermarket most of the time !

    Your opinion, please!

Hi Erixworx, First, you don't tell us about the kind of work you are planning to do, but as you are here, let me assume that is for Photoshop ! I've used a lot of tablets since the Summagraphic over the last 20 years or so, and can't work without anymore for graphics of photos. Wacom is THE...

changing the color of a portion of an image

One of the pencil's options is "color replacement" and very easy to use. But keep your selection to turn your chair darker as the result will probably be gray. That's one of the many ways to change any color to any one else

    Photoshop 7 issue...

Hi Garry, the vector approach is very different, so you will have to learn the bases, it's very important to reach a good result. Two things are positive : 1. you will be amaze by what you'll can do easily (hum or rather easily) and 2. the "palettes" are different from Photoshop but works near...

    Photoshop 7 issue...

Hi Garry, for sure, the best way for this kind of image is to use Illustrator who use vector instead of pixels, as said by apepp. That said, you can still use Photoshop BUT with a much greater resolution. Your image is set for a 1280 pixel-wide screen at 72 dpi, and that is correct for the final...

    What your mouse

let me come back. 1. I've tried inexpensive tablet and was not satisfied at all. If you work on a single screen, I found even a small 5x6" Wacom is usefull. And it is not expensive (under $70). Not necessary to have the extra feature (direct access command and menu,...) used for professional...

    What your mouse

Tablets are not expensive if you don't choose a "pro" model. I have use a lot of them and Wacom are the best in my opinion. Even the simplest one is much better that a mouse, but you have to be accustomed to work with.

    35mm Slide, Negative Scanners under $500, $800, $1000

Usually, I use a Nikon coolscan IV for 35mm (slide or neg). I also used a -cheaper- Minolta, but I find a real loss in dark area. Maybe can you find one on eBay ? For larger ones, I use my Umax Powerlook with UTA. If I used the "native" software for speed, I use Vuescan for difficult pictures...

Best Photo Management Software? Any tips?

Hi, if you need the very best, I think Lightroom (2) is the one for you. But you must do everything throuhg it. Files are not immediately compatible, they must be exported for use elswhere. For my part, I use Thumb+ (http://www.cerious.com/thumbsplus.shtml) for many years and it is very...

    Primer on resolution?

Pay attention at this point: if you are using a 1-bit image (pure B/W), you cannot resize that image with interpolation (bicubic usually) just because you have no "intermediate" values, by definition. Only a entire value, 1/2 for example, can give you a not too bad result. So my advice is to...

Possible to resize only transparent pixels?

Hi, if I undertand well, only some spreading procecss will give you the result, but I don't know why you search such a difficult approach. When you have your final image, the file has one, and only one, size. If you want to save disk space, don't forget a .psd file compresses data to obtain a...

    RAW - in a nutshell

With a RAW file, you have actually ALL the data capture par the sensor and you can use them as you want on a non destructive way. Not only you can manipulate all the different adjustment on a try and error basis, but you can even simulate a bracketing, or use the best for highlight and the best...

    recoloring black object/design?

Hi Nicole, if you have a grayscale image you have to change mode in color first, I choose RGB here. But Hue/Saturation don't works in this case. Select the black area you want to change, take Curves, select the color you want in the channel box and raise the black side of the curve. Needs to...

PSCS need 2 clear the scratch disk 2 make space

Hi, it's always a good idea to clean your system as said before. Pay also attention to clean your <temp> directory. As I can see your system, you should set your D drive as the primary scratch disk (and the only one) - one tab of the preferences options. On another way, as Adobe says, it's...
