I found something, not quite sure it will solve the problem but I fixed it annyway.
In my new PDC, the DNS and WINS entrys still pointed to the previous DC... It is still there as a BDC but has no DNS and WINS running annymore...
This server has IP settings manually entered, so it seems that...
They all get TCP-IP settings via DHCP that is running on the DC.
So that seems OK
Today, I experienced the same problem as well with my PC.
Verry strange! I have the proper account.
When I disconnect from the network I can log in succesfully. My guess is that XP looks in his local SAM to...
I'm affraid this is tricky
NT and AD don't work well with each other.
I know there are 3th part tools (like Quest software) that have special tools to migrate accounts from NT to 2003AD
Maybe that can help but I believe this is made for migrations in the same domain...
I understand that...
I think the problem is indeed that the addresses are not routable.
Best practice I think is to try and connect the clients DNS server to replicate (if they have anny) or connect as trusted and trusting domains.
Maybe it is also possible to let the DNS server use WINS entrys (if they excist)...
Hi guys!
I have a problem on our NT domain.
First off all, our original DC (the only one) had (an has) hardware issues, old hardware that reaches the end of its life i guess.
No problem annymore since i managed to revibe it, and installed a new NT4 server on a virtual machine that is now PDC...
Hi, since I'm more a Hardware-IT guy, I have quistions about the correct programming of a good Backup plan for our SQL Server.
The idea is that I Backup our Databases (5 in total under a single server) every day.
The backups will be stored on a second disc, which is taped every day.
What I...
Thanks!
Worked!!!! I used Ultimate Bootdisc and it worked
I first tryd to reset the password to another one, and that didn't happen properly I guess (stil no logon)
But when I blanked the password it worked!
Now comes the next thing: migrating the old NT4 to a 2003 domain (will be something...
Have another problem...
Last week our NT4 Domain controller went flat. Old PIII server and he didn't move annymore. That sucked because it was the only DC in the network.
Solution? New domain :-s
So configured a 2003 server with AD to be DC of a new domain. I made the users and started to add...
Yep, all XP-pro.All dell latidude 620 portables.
The strange thing is that there is no diffecerence between working and not working PC's Not in config and not in hardware.
The DNS servers are the ISP servers.
there are no other or additional DNS servers in my network.
so far the problems are solved (was solved within the hour)
But i want to understand what happend so I can avoid this ore act faster and with more precision the next time.
I checked the DNS service:
i surfed to the IP address of our corporate website as well in stead of the url--> same thing.
Also pinging to url's where possible, but when I entered the URL in the browser it didn't do annything. (also the IP i 've resolved by pinging did not work)
So i don't...
Hi all,

I also noticed that ALL computers could connect with www.google.be and could search google on a normal way, but if I entered a url in the...

Hi Dean,
Can you provide a little more information? or a small basic drawing of your required stup?
Maybe a layer-3 switch can do a bit of the things you want to do.
How manny towers we are talking about? I presume all IP adresses are in the same range? Subnetting comes up to me.
But than...
I think i was a bit to fast, i will give more info:
We use PAT on our WAN ip
For example; traffic that comes in via port 45 will be redirected to a local ip on port 80 (where a webserver runs)
But that particular webserver must be reacheable from within our local lan and from outside (via...
Hi all!
We use a cisco 800 series router to connect to our DSL line.
This router is managed by the ISP and i can not access the config myselve (Ok, I can do password recovery etc, but that would start a war between us and the ISP)
Annyhow, I Can ask for a copy of the configuration (dump from...
Dialing goes by phone dialer in PM.
The portable phone itselve stays in its craddle all day :-p
The reason that we have portable phones is because the wireless headsets use the base station to connect.
Normally i can remove all phones and just keep the base stations and headsets
I don’t know either.
The Avaya system is completely new to me.
But the users told me that it was no problem before…
I changed the existing config by basics only (put users in hunt groups, gave them new organized numbers,…) But because I downloaded the system manager for my PC from the internet...
