You can set the dialtone type to regular dialtone .. I can't remember the setting name, but it is supported for exactly the reason you mentioned (allowing modems / fax machine to recognize dialtone more easily)

I've had *no* problems at all using 4.0.0.8, either directly connecting to extn 76 (I have a laptop plugged into the Aux port of a system phone), or dialling in and connecting via Auto Attendant/ Hunt Group 6 (*8 then 776). Are you sure that the problems aren't related to the PC you are using...

Feature 5 9 can be used from other extensions too (not just 10 and 11). At least it can on ACS R3.0.2 :-)

What you suggested won't work as the Transfer Return relates to the originating extension, rather than the extension receiving the call. I've tried using Call Forward, but the call only follows one 'hop', then uses the Transfer Return setting of the 'middle' extension :-(

From some digging around that I've done, it appears that Lucent sell an RJ45 to DB25 module (355A??) which contains circuitry, rather than just being a simple conversion between connector types. Can anyone confirm this?

Excellent!!! I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds promising!! I'm sure that the manuals recommended setting the Transfer Return for VMS to be extn 10, which is why I had it programmed that way .... but then the manuals aren't always right LOL

Does anyone have the wiring details for the cable to connect the serial port to a PC? I seem to remember reading that the link used XON/XOFF handshake, which implies that the link just needs TXD, RXD and GND connecting?
