How do I Connect 2 Lucent Partners 1

I have two buildings that are about 100 feet apart. I plan to trench between the 2 buildings to lay cable for the data transfer. How can I transfer calls between the 2 phone systems, and call extensions from one building to another?

As far as I know this is not possible with Partner (someone coorect me if I'm wrong), you should look inot a different switch like the Magix.. Matt Wray

You could connect 1 or 2 extensions from each Partner system to 1 or 2 CO ports on the opposite Partner, going both ways. Don't assign any lines to those extensions, and take the CO ports out of the Auto Line Select.

If you use more that one extension, put them in a Hunt group.

If I am at Business A, and want to transfer a call to Business B, I simply press Transfer and dial the extension number or hunt group number (or press an intercom auto dial button) and the call rings in on the CO buton(s) at Business B.

If I am at Business A and want to talk to a particular extension at Business B, I would press the CO button that gives me intercom dial tone from Business B and dial the Extension Number.


Curious: would a single Partner system have enough CO and Extension ports to simply have ONE control unit, and run a 25 or 50 pair cable between buildings?

Not sure about your question, but calling from A to B, you are accessing B's intercom and dialing an extension number, which would cover to Voice Mail if not answered.

Transferring from A to B involves transferring the caller to an Extension on your OWN system, which rings into B's system as a CO line, and would be handled however it is set up over there. It could be answered by a live person, picked up by an Auto Attendant, or line ownered by a mailbox. The extension or hunt group at system A would not have a mailbox or auto VMS cover assigned to it.

As Tommy commented, you would be better if you could get away with just using one Partner system (at A), and then connecting the extensions at B back to A using a multi-pair cable!

If you don't have enough ports on one system, then you should seriously think about buying a system that WILL allow that. (And sell the old systems on eBay!)
