We just moved an AT@T Partner II system to a new location. We get the time on the phones and you can see the numbers you are dialing but you don't hear a dial tone. The call goes through but you can't hear anything on either the callers or recipents phone. (called a cell phone from the office) The office is wired with Cat5e for data and telco. However all the keystone jacks are cat5e. We were thinking the battery died and lost the configurations during the move and locked the allow dial tone or some other option.
We tested the phone block and it's live.
We are going crazy
Thanks,
Gene

Have you tried speaker phone? Also try either a butt set or a tip/ring phone off the jack and see if you get DT. And not to insult, I've had this happen, make sure the volume is not turned down, I know, I know, Sounds silly but it happens.. Matt Wray

Thanks Matt,

No insult taken. I'm not a pbx guru in fact this is the first pbx I have moved. I install and maintain networks for a living. However I'm helping a friened save money by doing this for him, plus I gain some knowledge about the system. Sounded like a good deal to me.

Here's what I did to fix the problem. (many hours of play)
I punched down only 2 wires (blue) at the jack. When I added the 2 (orange) wires to the jack I got the dial tone.
Simple for people who know and mind boggling to us that dont't

The REAL insult was that I was told I only needed 2 wires (blue) to run the phones by someone who said they knew how to install Partner phone system.

However I discovered this forum in the process of trying to fix the problem. I read many post about Partner 2 and was amazed by everyone who responed with a straight up solution to other techs problems. I now know there is only 1 place for the answers when I need help.

Thanks

No problem, the Magix can run off a single pair, but not Partner.;) Matt Wray

Thanks for the info Matt. I'll ask you first next time. :)

The inner pair is used for dial tone and speech (and ringing on non-system phones). the next pair is used for system phones to signal .... hence you had the signalling connection and not the voice connection :)

Incidentally, if you have a device such as a PC with modem connected to the AUX port on a system phone, and the PC/modem is using the line, it seems that other extensions can call you and the system phone rings (even though you can't actually answer the call cos the modem is using the speech pair)
