Hi all,
Just to give you a quick feddback on our estimation on ReportNet.
We have tried to migrate reports from Impromptu to ReportNet. It was just a nightmare:
- Performance
- Functionnalities that do not exist anymore
- Bugs
- ...
Actually you have to rebuild both reports and...
Actually you can build numerous kind of reports but maintenance and correction of reports is very hard.
You do not have a easy way to see the structure of a report, a synthesized view of sorting, grouping...

Hi all,
I saw a demo of ReportNet.
It seems that we can do almost every kind of reports with the tool, but I am really afraid concerning the maintenance of reports... it seems so complex with options everywhere, sub forms, popup windows...
What do you guys think?
Graham.
Hi all,
My tip concerns cross tables: never use them!
e.g. if you have a table with columns:
1) Year
2) Country
3) Sales USD
And you want Country in lines and Year in columns just do the following for column "Sales 2003":
Total(if (Year = 2003) Then (Sales USD) else (0))
Repeat...
Hi,
Actually you have the 'Transformer Macro Reference Guide' that is installed with the application.
You will find very good samples in it and the document is very well done.
Graham.
Hi,
I advise you to define your security in your format (ascii file, DB...) then read it by a prgm and apply it using the transformer API.
I would advise that even for Impromptu security.
NEVER consider a model or a catalog as a source (or storage) of security.
It is quite easy to do.
Graham.
Hi all,
For information, we have bought I-Assistant for Impromptu from Intregrated Solutions which is much more cheaper (2k$) and we are very happy with it because you can really do deep analysis on reports & catalogs.
Graham.
Hi all,
We are using Architect from the first version 6.0.
If you use it to design catalogs, just use: the import DB model, create Business Layer and define joins and build you package layer.
If you just use these functionalities, it is really a good tool (and I am not always very nice with...
Hi,
We are using 'I-Assistant for Impromptu' with which we can compare 2 catalogs at both catalog and database level (including joins).
We had a demo version from www.i-sols.com and then we bought it.
I strongly recommend its use, it is just amazing (doc, analysis or reports...).
Graham.
Yes.
We use it, but only for VERY large catalogs.
I strongly recommend you not to use it on 'old' catalog (ie. import a catalog into architect, modify it, then recreate tha catalog: IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL).
For small catalogs, it dois not woth to use it.
For large ones, it is very good...
In fact, I have to build a report which takes 2 parameters P1 and P2.
As the calculation of data cannot be done just using a cognos report, I have created an Oracle Stored Procedure which takes these 2 parameters and populates a table with required data.
So, I would like my report to:
- Get...
Hi all,
I have to build a report based on data that is stored in a table.
The data of this table is the result of a stored procedure which parameters are given prompt of my report.
Furthermore, I want this report to be published on IWR.
Does anyone have an idea on how to do that?
Many...
