I can't answer because the cable is connected to the NIU through a fancy block type connector, and on the other end there is an RJ45 crimped to it. This goes directly into the Switch.

I have tested by plugging the MD110 and the server into a decated isolated switch, the same problem occurs, I don't think this is a network related issue. even if I just connect the MD110 by itself to the switch I get a link status (Link LED is on) but no activity (Activity LED off)

The Log has only logged the commands as I typed them, none of the output has been recorded. I will play around a bit and get back to you on this one.
