Thanks for the info Nelviticus. I always like to keep and open mind and learn where possible.
What do you think of this concept in an apartment complex? Since apartments conceptually share the same power lines (or do they?... dunno, I'm not a powerline tech)... would the chance for security...
Duh. (Slaps self upside head).
You're 110% right Declaro. I've used that method more than once and didn't think to mention it here. That is by far one of the easiest data transfer methods going. Don't even have to copy the data into a folder; once the old C is set as a slave, can directly...
I'm glad gbaughma made that point, 'cause I was tempted to mention that earlier and decided against it. But good point. Power-line networking has been around for decades. Ever since its inception, it has been pointed out that it is possibly one of the worst forms of networking from just a...
OK, considering all the above, there are two possibilities that I can think of:
A) Windows is messed up and despite shutting down itself, is not sending information to the motherboard to shut down the computer.
B) Your motherboard is glitching and needs replaced.
Way to tell: run Windows...
Cdogg: In understand your points. I'm not denying that wireless has its place. Just making the point that quite often people think they need wireless when a wired connection would serve the purpose better.
Like I mentioned above, eventually the "wireless" concept will get some real brains...
Occam's Razor applies so many time. No power: dead power supply. :D
Different folks have different experiences though. I've tried ordering from Tiger twice and both times had bad experience. My biggest complaint is their tendency to "hype" the items they sell (ie, make them sound better...
See what you think of this:
The MyBook is an external hard drive. No drivers (except from standard Windows USB and HD access drivers). System doesn't even recognize it as being there unless it is plugged in and turned on. So your feedback on this: if I'm right... doesn't that automatically...
>type msinfo32 in the Run line<
Yup. Since the external HD is a usb device, there shouldnt' be a IRQ conflict at all with a PCI device. Nothing showed as a conflict. All USB's and PCIs showed up neatly listed in their own separate areas. Plus there's the fact that the problem doesn't happen...
Unfortunately, this is one of those problems that has about a zillion answers. My answer: take it to the local PC shop, pay them $50 to $80 bucks to assemble it for you. Headache gone! :D
Not that you're not able to assemble a computer. "Dead boxes" happen to the best of us... and without...
The above advice is all good, especially the one from Paparazi: "Well firstly go wired if you can, despite "the trend" for all things wireless you still can't beat a hard wired system. It is also cheaper and two PC's can be connected via Ethernet ports using one of your Usb2 ports for your...
I have also seen this problem before when a component tries to stay "awake" (ie, the component or software fails to recognize it when Windows shuts down). My immediate solution: remove the Sony, restore to an earlier date, return the product.

>Just to be sure, however, let me ask: Connecting an ide drive (only) to see if the system powers up will not work, unless the board is connected to the power supply and the power switch, right?<
Right. If I read you right... tried that a long time ago just to quick-test a component. I've...
K, with just the specs you've mentioned, I can't see anything that is a severe power consumer. A GeForce 6200 is minimal, 512DDR is minimal, a CPU fan is minimal... nothing major there. I'm running a dual core, 1024g RAM, 250gig HD, DVD RW drive, Nvidia 7900 graphics card (dual power supply...
Not sure NoCal. It's hard to keep track of everything going on inside Windows these days, but didn't have anything show up as a conflict. What's your favorite way of checking for conflicts? In the rush I might have forgotten to check for something.
