I know the HiCom 150 we have needs a NULL modem cable to communicate with a PC running Assistant software. Does the RS232 port on the back of the PhoneMail (regular not SE model) need a regular serial cable instead? I can't get a login prompt using the same NULL modem cable and hyperterm. Thanks in advance.

Ps: is there a way someone can point me to a copy of the System Adminsitration Document for the PhoneMail (model VOY1800045)?

To connect to Siemens PhoneMail using hyperterminal:

1. Open hyperterminal and name your new connection. When the "Connect To" box opens, go to step 2.

2. For direct connect, choose the "connect using" tab and make sure that you select the proper COM port for your direct connection. (ex. Direct to com 1)

3. Adjust port settings as follows:
Bits per second: 1200
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow control: (I use hardware, but it isn't crucial)

4. You should now be connected and should get the "Login:" prompt. If you do not, try hitting enter a few times. If you still do not get the prompt, try pressing ctrl+q, which will tell PhoneMail to continue output to terminal if it has been paused (ctrl+s: to stop output to terminal and ctrl+q to continue).

5. You may also want to check the terminal setup in hyperterminal. Go to File -> Properties -> Settings and make sure that "Function, arrow, control keys act as" Terminal keys, and that "Telnet Terminal" is ANSI.

And that's all she wrote. No login prompt or anything. In fact no more output or response. Is this normal?

What model of phonemail do you have? ex. 7652, etc.
What software version are you running?

It's a HiCom Office PhoneMail (Model VOY180045B). The software version is 1.03.

Edit: I have the Phonemail hooked up to a OfficeCom 150E. I can log into the voicemail via the phone prompts. I don't know all the commands, but I have managed to "reset the database" and set the country code. Is there a command to enable the RS232 port to prompt for login?

I have configured the pbx with the hunt groups and forwarding tables, and in fact when i dial an extenstion I see it forward to the phonemail, but the voice mail never picks up. Dialing the phonemail hunt group extension from the phone however, asks for the user login. What am I missing here?

Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to get this phonemail thing going and there is no help online anywhere.

Sorry, I didn't realize that it was the Hicom Office PhoneMail, which I don't really know much about. From the information that I have, however, I cannot find any instructions for logging in to the RS232 port. It looks to me like the administration is done by logging in through a phone. Do you have a copy of the menu tree for the system administrator fuctions?

Well, It turns out on this Phonemail model the RS232 port is supposedly only for factory technician use. You can't (and really don't need to) do anything using that port. All the commands and setup are through the voice prompts. There are a set of steps (19 to be exact) you also need to follow on the Pbx side, but believe it or not I have finally got the two working together! :)
