Hi. I have a Xerox Workcenter M940. I can't print to it. It prints out garbage! I cleaned and aligned the printhead. I print out the test page. It is fine. What else can be wrong? It is attached to XP Pro and it was working fine before (I do have the XP driver).

Thanks in advance.

To TheRealPundit.

Thank you, but can I use the scanner if I do the compact install? 'Cause the last time I tried to install the file I was not able to use the scanner. Or do I need the software for that? 'Cause if I do, could you make me a copy? I tried to order it through Xerox, but they do not have the software anymore.
Thanks!!!!!

To everyone;

I got my xerox to work under Xp pro, by using the USB port. The problem is the service packs from windows. I can print, copy, but not scan. If I want to scan to the comuter it gives an error that pagis is not correctly installed. Does anyone know how I gan get this to work too? Or can somebody help me to get the software?

Thanks

Hey Guys i found a good Solution on WinXp Pro service Pack 2 (Printing, Scaning, and Copying of course :)

This is what i hava done...

1- Uninstall Xerox Software with Control Panel Remove Programs... Be sure to remove power and usb / parallel cords

2- Reboot

3- Made a search with regedit with "xerox" and deleted all keys that contained this word.

4- Remove previous Xerox Install Directory, c:\program's file\xerox\*.*

5- Install the latest drivers from xerox (uswxp124.exe)
choose recommended or custom it doesn't matter

6- Shutdow the computer if you unchecked automatic shutdown before installation completed.

7- Connect power and usb cords and start your computer

8- When the new hardware wizard pop, choose to not connect on web to search for update.

9- Choose to search for the best drivers and specify the installation directory C:\Program Files\xerox\Xerox WorkCentre M940-M950\System

10- After the icon tray says that the new hardware is ready to use open controp panel, then system, and finally device manager.

11- On Universals serial bus controllers you will see USB Printing Support, right click on it then update drivers,
choose to not connect on web, install from a list or specified location and CHOOSE DON'T SEARCH, I WILL CHOOSE THE DRIVER TO INSTALL

12- click on Have Disk and browse for the file x940usb.inf in your installation directory :
C:\Program Files\xerox\Xerox WorkCentre M940-M950\System

Note i have not try to do only step 11 and 12, mabe that's the only thing that need to be done to get the usb communication to works. (I've spend too many time already :)

Now you will be able to Print, Scan and Copies from your computer, all tests completed successfully

Hope that help

Sorry for my english, im french canadian so i try :)

Hi excalior,

Your response and solution sounds interesting. I upgraded a customers system to Windows XP pro from Windows 98 and ran into the situation where installing the XP software that was downloaded from the Xerox site wouldn't complete without the origianl CD. Needless to say my customer doesn't have that CD, how did you work around that problem??? Any response would be helpful, my goal is to leave my customer with a seemless upgrade, the situations with this Xerox workcentre is the only problem that is remaining.

If you are having trouble printing with your M940/M950 from XP after installing SP2 or other "security" updates, here is what I had to do...

The problem was the printer (and scanner) stopped working at some point so I removed and reinstalled the latest printer driver for XP. It would not install correctly. After that, every time I rebooted it told me it found new hardware and asked if I wanted to install the Xerox M950. A few times I said "yes" and it always failed.

Finally I looked in the Windows\WindowsUpdate.log and it had an error message about not finding section [ClassInstall32] in the driver setup file. I went to the Xerox system folder (on my system it is C:\Program Files\XEROX\Xerox WorkCentre M940-M950\System ), opened the file oemsetup.inf with notepad and added a line at the bottom with text "[ClassInstall32]" (no quotes).

After that the printer driver installed successfully and it prints OK now (after spending $100 on new print heads and ink).

Alas, I have not been able to make it scan. Finally bought a used Canon scanner.

Guys...

I was having the same problem most of you were having regarding the USB/XP driver compatibility. I did as excalior suggested.... removed everything regarding Xerox from my machine... and then simply followed his directions to the tee. Voila.... printer up and running perfectly.

Oh... sidenote... I didn't install of the other software from the original CD... just the basic stuff I knew I needed to get the printer to print. I thought I'd add the other stuff as needed... adding them seperately as to not create compatibility issues.

Follow his directions and your printer will be up and running. Now.. if I can only solve the problem of the printer sucking up ink like todays' cars to gasoline. LOL!!

Thanks Excalior!!!!
