Hi. I have a Xerox Workcenter M940. I can't print to it. It prints out garbage! I cleaned and aligned the printhead. I print out the test page. It is fine. What else can be wrong? It is attached to XP Pro and it was working fine before (I do have the XP driver).

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I am having the same problem.
I have a w2k sp2 machine with security fixes, and cannot print anything. I have tried installing windows xp Xerox driver but it fails, with same problem (cannot print).
Can anyone help ? Should I try upgrading to SP3 on W2k, and then upgrading to Windows XP driver ?
.
Thanks
Louis

THANK YOU THANK YOU!! I have had trouble over and over with my M950. Last week I installed all the W2K service packs and the printer stopped completely. I reinstalled the driver and same problem (fuzzy stuff on top left of page, also sometimes it just sent the print head back and forth forever). After loading the XP driver it works again, woohoo! I thought it had become a boat anchor.

In return, here is a tip I can pass along: my print head dried out and no blue would print, even after a new ink cartridge and doing "Maintenance/ Clean Print Head" many times. I looked for new print heads and found a source somewhere for $245 (US) and that was too much. In desperation I removed the print head and held it under the faucet (very warm water) for about 30 or 40 minutes, shaking it every few minutes. Finally after only clear water came from the head, I let it dry on a towel for a long time then put it back in the printer. After running a "clean" cycle, it worked like new. Note that using alcohol did nothing, just use plain warm water.

Hi, All.

I finally got a chance to install the XP driver to my Win2k Pro. Now it is no longer printing our garbage! But I do got another problem. I put in a brand new yellow toner but no yellow is printer. Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks.

Hello Xerox M940 Friends:
I also have a strange acting M940. I have purchased two sets of color and black print heads. The original print heads lasted approx. 18 months before strange things started happening. The second set lasted about two months. The third set-well, the color never regained its true color capabilities. Like it wasn't using the right amount of all the colors. The black print head was alright for about two months. Then it started to act strange. Like white streaks accross the page, areas on the page not printing. I know the cartridges have ink in them. I have read the previous questions and answers. I have Windows 98. Do you think I can use the XP Driver to clean-up my problems?

mai4440,

from people posted here and from my personal experience, switching the driver for win2k and xp works. i am not sure about win98. i would try the win2k driver first if i were you. this method is weird but it is working for those who posted here. i would try it.

Now my printer is printing out yellow and no more white lines on my document. I got it to print by cleaning the print head. I used a damp paper towel and tapped the print head lightly on the towel a few times. Try that.

hi,

my M940 problem is ... now have a F900 system error that cannot be cleared!
everything was fine then i used pagis to do a scan for the first time - ok; next day switched on and can do nothing at all with it!
the user guide says for F900: "RDY-Bus communication error" but i know it has nothing to do with the USB connection or external softare and am at a loss for a next move.

any ideas on tackling this problem?

thanks.

I also have a 940 I have less then 50 prints since new. called Xerox said it was print head and as a renewable resource was my problem. New print head worked for about 10 prints then it quit too. Still no printing I have replaced all printheads, Ink, everything that was mentioned above. outsourcing for Xerpx is in FL. phone consul is $30.00
After many days of trying to resolve this problem though Xerox I finaly talked to a real person At Xerox
they said that they are aware of the problem and the VicePres. was aware as well?? But no longer support them. Says it is a hardware problem? ask for resolvement of problem! they are working on it.??? Called FL and they say that they are unaware of any issue concerning hardware on 940-950 printers but also said the printheads have fuses on both and this could be basic problem. but would not give any other advise on how to fix on site. but if I shipped to them they could maybe fix it? Needless to say but Xerox is giving us the royal Shaft.

Have anyone solved the communication problem with WinXP? XP isn't able to communicate the printer and I can't figure out what's the solution. WinXP drivers seem to help if Win2k is used but not with XP itself and that's strange.

My PC can't communicate with my m940. My device manager listed the printer in other devices, so there's something wrong with the USb driver, but that's as much as I can figure out. I'm not great with troubleshooting my PC, so this is a bit frustrating for me. Any ideas?

Tyng98, caimaani, I think I have the same problem. I work for a charity and we have just been given a 940. I've installed in on an XP Home machine and while the Xerox diagnostics say they can't communicate with the printer, it prints from Word etc. I'm using the XP drivers.

Initially nothing worked at all but looking at its properties in Control Panel/Printers I noticed that under Ports it was using "xprt virtual port". Changing this to "USB001 virtual port" at least got printing working!

Anyone got any thoughts??

AgeConcern! Thank you! Switching the port to USB001 worked. And my M940 was pretty close to getting chucked off the balcony. Much appreciated!

I have been unable to print using USB port since I reinstalled driver a few months ago. But parallel port works, even though no connection is indicated on Connection Monitor. If I start Computer while printer is on then it usually shows connection present.

Retired2 may have given me an idea, if the printheads are fuse protected, they may be bypassed, If that is the hardware problem we are all having (F900 on the M940 Xerox WorkCentre )... Does anyone out there have any Diagrams of this famous machine ???

I have had a similar USB communication problem with XP and the M940. First the printer refused to work and just sat there in the corner of the room as a photocopier. Then I downloaded the XP driver and installed it and the printer then started to work.
Then it just stoped working so I downloaded the driver again (hoping for an updated version but of course none exist) and tried a number of things but all to no avail and now it sits there as a photocopier again.
I have tried all kinds of things but nothing seems to work, has anybody got any ideas or solutions to this problem?
My last two resorts are to buy a parallel cable and hope it works or leave the m940 as a photocopyer and buy a new printer.

Help I don't want this to beat me!!

Hello Indyben- Glad to see some one else determined to get this printer up and running. I have the M940 and it was working fine on my computer running Windows 98. When I switched it to my newer computer running XP- my problems started. Xerox no longer supports this printer so if you want help- you need to call Eqiupfix and pay $30 for their help. I spoke to them and they offered some help- use a parallel cable and do a compact installation without Pagis, Text Bridge, and Quick Link. Not happy with this I e-mailed Xerox and asked them if the M940 can run with Windows XP and they say it can. I've uninstalled/reinsatlled the drivers several time and have the printer working but with some problems. If you need help e-mail me at pooh215@aol and I'll let you know what I've been able to do.

First off, thanx to all for their valuable contributions. I also am a long suffering X940 owner (printing being the main bone of contention....surprise surprise). With all the previous posts taken into consideration, does anyone have any thoughts on the effect of SP4/W2K ? I reinstalled original cds/downloaded updates after wiping my hard drive clean, but to no avail : the piece of junk still refuses to print properly (yes, I'm using the XP driver from xerox.com).

Hang in there folks, we'll get it!!

I need a copy of the origianl XEROX CD that came with the M940. I can open up a FTP site if anyone can ZIP it up for me. I really need it. The drivers on the XEROX site dont seem to want to work without it.

Hey folks, I have a Xerox M940 AIO printer which has not played well once I upgraded my computer's OS from Win2K to WinXP. I have since purchased a different (non-Xerox) AIO printer and tried uninstalling the M940 software via the Add/Remove programs from the Windows control panel.

Problem: not all of the Xerox software will uninstall, the printer and pagis icons still show in my systray and as active background applications/processes when viewing the TaskManager.

Question: Does anyone out there know how to either: (1)completely clean all the Xerox "stuff" from my computer, or (2) tap into the Windows boot sequencing area to eliminate those things from loading when Windows boots. Win98 use to have an application to do that - I've not seen anything similar in Win2K or WinXP.

Any and all assistance is humbly appreciated!

pooh315 :: I clicked on the xerox support link you providedin your reply. At one time (about 2 years ago), I was provided a file from them to "cleanup" but cannot find it - didn't think I was going to need it again.

In any case, when I clicked on the link in your reply, I received the following error notice on the page that loaded:
"Message: Bad Input on Previous Form
An error was found in values provided on the previous form. Please go back and verify all entries and try again."

Any thoughts? How long ago was it when they provided that file for you? You wouldn't still have it on your pc would you?
