We have an IP500 at our main office. We are opening a small office with only 5 users (VoIP Trunks). I see I can get an SOE cheap!!! on eBay but worried because it says it can't go beyond version 4.2.

Will the IP406v2 still work in SCN with an IP500 on version 6.

>SOE $1199 =
>IP406 $900 =
Nb. IP406 is cheaper I guess because it doesnt come with anything, no VCM, no analogue trunk card.

btw, buying all your stuff off ebay, its nice for saving money, but who do you get support from? the guy from ebay? i would suspect scansouce would tell me to bugger off if i ring them for help for items i bought off ebay.

what are you doing for licences? i mean, the hardware might be cheap, but the licences for stuff can be a killer.

also dont be fooled, the guy is saying the SOE has advantages over the IP500 - sure when hes telling porkies:

Avaya IP Office PABX - Small Office Edition (with 4.2 firmware preinstalled)

THE AVAYA SOE IP OFFICE HAS MANY BENEFITS OVER AN IP500 SOLUTION ~ INBUILT VCM CARD FOR 3 IP PHONES OR TRUNKS!! VOIP DOES NOT REQUIRE LICENSING. COMES WITH VOICEMAIL LITE AS STANDARD. INBUILT 4 ANALOG TRUNKS WITH 8 DIGITAL [DS] & 4 ANALOGUE [POTS] PORTS (FOR FAX/MODEMS). SUITS A SMALL OFFICE THAT NEEDS UP TO 15 EXTENSIONS, INTERNET CONNECTIVITY VIA 4 PORT LAN SWITCH.

Model: SOE 4T + 4A + 8DS (3 VoIP)

Features:

Auto Attendant: Call Routing & Prompting

Voicemail Lite: Basic voicemail system (Software installs on Microsoft XP PC. PC not supplied)

Tell me what is wrong here?

There is no Auto Attendant.
Still, SOE can be usefull for very small companies.

I also recommend to buy from and Avaya seller in order to be ok with the licensing and have technical support!

(AT LEAST the main unit from Avaya and the phones from ebay :D )

Help me to help you! Helping each other makes us stronger, smarter!

I like an SOE but i would buy a new ip500
It is a little more expensive but you need to buy a vcm for the 406 too

all interesting responses, so thankyou for that.

From what I have been told there is an AA in the SOE, so Im not sure if this statement is wrong. Just a very basic one in Manager (at the bottom on the left!), its not like voicemail pro.

Biggest problem with the SOE is the 4.2 limitation.

I think you are right TLPETER, an IP500 is the best bet, but too expensive (out of our budget) once you get the modules and the licenses. All in one option like the SOE is much better.

I think I am leaning toward the SOE as there is nothing more to spend! Cheap, small and will do everything we need and network back to the 500.

I just dont know if Avaya supports the IP406 once we get to version 6???

They do support the 406V2 on R6.

The SOE does not have a AA out of the box.
You need an embedded voicemail card for that !

I think you should by an NEC XN120

cheap, reliable, VM, AA, no licences, just a mild degree in rocket science to make it do anything other than ring phones.

apart form that, I think you should avoid the IPO if you want to save money!!!

I would use smoke signals to avoid spending money :)
