Hi all,

i have an avaya ipoffice 406. and 40 pc's. they runs phonemanagers.
The voice quality is too bad. I need your help.
the ip406 and all users are connected to the same switch netgear fms726 manageable. On the clients, Phonemanager is set like this:
On the preferences :

audio codec is G711 allow 64

Is the qos necessary ? I am not a network ingeneer and it's difficult for me to make qos.

Thanks for your help,

Amin.

do you use phones or the phonemanager pro voip application ?

Delete the QOS.
We had the same problem.
Also look at the specs of the pc you need at least 1GB memory to work just fine.
And check if Firewall is not blokking the Softphone.

Thanks for your answer.

where can I delete the qos ?
on the ipoffice manager ? on gateway H323menu ?

if you are running that many softphones and other data apps. i would recommend qos. that will prioritise the packets. or you can plug the pc into the back of the phone and the phone will provide sometime of qos at the end location anyways.

You can delete QOS in de network properties on the pc.

We've tried everything regarding the QOS.
We found out that with out the QOS there are no problems with stutering calls.

Deleting QOS from network properties should only be needed if running softphones over a PPTP connection.
Never had any issues with that on a local network.

First, Thanks for all for you help.

ok I have some problems to make qos.
in the switch I have made all dscp 46 in high priority.
the voip packet have the number 46 by default in the manager (ipoffice). and in windows I don't know where i can put this value on windows XP. On gpedit in the qos tree, I have a lot of informations ???
I have a french windows xp.
in dscp value I have 5
ServiceTypeBestEffort
ServiceTypeControlledLoad
ServiceTypeGuaranteed
ServiceTypeNetworkControl
ServiceTypeQualitative

???

instead of 3.2.12 please use 3.2.28. This will resolve many issues. The best improvement of that release is the process priority which is boosted to HIGH instead of NORMAL.

QOS...we found it causing more problems rather than solving..

ps. what headset do you use??
Good luck!

Arnoud

thanks Arnoud,

Ok I will try to install 3.2.28, release. I'll try without QOS.

I use GN 2000 stereo usb and GN 8110 Usb headsets.

Amin.

just some additional feedback: we had problems with one site which we couldn't resolve. It seemed that the pc softphone wasn't stable. In fact, we suffered from electrical interference on the pc power supplies. Due to a high interference, this resulted in a poor behaving USB headset. Talking to Plantronics, they confirmed that this happens. The headset noise cancelling wasn't working properly, 50Hz noise etc. Just to let you know.

GN Netcom USB devices...
I just received a call from a desperate reseller using the same GN Netcom USB headsets and he complained about the voice quality, wich decreases after ten to twenty seconds.
He also tried everything and nothing gave any improvement.
I suggested him to use a wired headset and then call me again, wich he did.
He happely informed me that the problem was gone with the wired headset, so what is to blaim :
The PC?
Avaya software?
USB headset?

You name it, but i will stick to the wires...

Does it a codec problem ?

What is the better codec to use in a LAN ?
