Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone knows if the file size limitation has gotten any bigger with Visual FoxPro 8.0. If I am correct, the file size for VFP 6.0(which pathetically enough I am still using) is just above 2.5 gig. I am getting VFP 8.0 within the next week, so I would like to know. I am going to be crunching over 9 million records which will easily hit around the 3.0 gig mark. So if anyone knows the answer to my question, I would really appreciate it. I know usually numbers like this are done on main frames, but hey what can I do. The only option I can see is just to split the file up into smaller chunks, which may and may not work for what I will be doing.

Thx in advance,
Rene

The limitation is more a compatibility with Windows rather then a limitation with VFP, but yes it is still there (2.1 gigs).

.DBF's are still backward compatible. Have you thought about maybe going with something like a SQL backend instead?

Thanks guys. I really don't have any experience with SQL, so for me unfortunately, that is not an option. I will just break it down into smaller files and see what happens. I appreciate the feedback, once again Thanks.

It's never too late to learn... SQL server isn't very difficult to connect to, the commands aren't much different than SQL SELECT / INSERT / DELETE commands in VFP (though SQLServer opens up many more possibilities, with t-sql) and you can use MSDE, which is a free, sql-server-lite.

I don't know if MSDE has a 2gig size limit, though.
