I was driving behind a Honda this morning with a very clever vanity plate. It had the letters LI, followed by the cent symbol, then finished with PL8.

Have you seen any creative vanity plates lately?

Some states are restricting license plates/tags that contain only random combinations of the letter "O" and the number "0" since it confuses photographic-traffic-enforcement systems.

Not Louisiana; in fact, I one saw OON 999 in a shopping center parkiing lot. I wonder if the next plate was OOO 000, or did someone come to their senses and skip over that one?

The dies Louisiana uses for the letter O and the number zero are exactly the same here. Curiously, they didn't skip the O series, but they did skip the Q series. Go figure.

So..... who knows how they mark the unmarked cars in Raleigh? There's got to be an easier way to spot them other than looking for the cars with the "only 1 driver and boy was he big" tilt to it. For a while I was looking for the BRNY-FIFE license plates and was disappointed that I couldn't find them.

As for unmarked cars, many (or maybe all?) of our unmarked State Highway Patrol cars have license plates beginning with SHP. I'm quite sure that is by design.

Not all do.

BTW, saw an Escape Hybrid being driven by a Raleigh PD officer the other day. It had the LED lights behind the tinted glass. If I hadn't been right behind him at the stoplight, I would never have known. Standard civilian plate, too.

He should have had: DONUT8R

Saw a real butthead one the other day, made me want to cut the guy off and slam on my breaks....just to do it...

It was on a brand new Lexus: CANUGET1? [cannon][auto]

At least my car is closer to being paid for than his expensive lease that he'll lose when his ARM resets.[cheers]

Saw a rather interesting vehicle on Saturday.
Was a tiny pink Geo. (Haven't seen one of those in awhile as is.)
The plate: PMSX2
I would not really want to meet the driver of that car.

I don't think I've posted in this one yet. However just the other day, I did see one that I thought was plum hilarious!

I wish I had gotten a picture - thought about doing so with my cellphone, but just was too lazy, I guess.

It was a hand written tag that said:

"License Applied Fer" Or it might have been "License Plate Applied Fer" - either way, the "Fer" was the importnat part there.

Oh yeah, it was written on what looked like maybe a brown paper grocery bag.

SIO2RA

WASHIS (especially on a flashy car)

per ardua ad astra

Hmmm...perhaps the owner is Japanese? Could they be trying to "spell out" Sayonara (goodbye)? I know the Japanese word for 2 is Ni, but maybe there's a dialect used in parts of Japan that pronounce it as Na. Just a guess...

My thoughts are that if one's vanity plate is too esoteric, then is it worth the $25 - $100 premium one pays for her/his vanity (if no one "gets" it)?

I felt this way about the one above. My thoughts were along the lines that "SIO2" referred to Carbon-Dioxide ("CO[sub]2[/sub]") with these possible meanings:
"CO[sub]2[/sub] Red Alert" -- for a vehicle prone to pollution, or
"CO[sub]2[/sub] Remedial Action"-- for a super-clean vehicle (e.g., Hydrogen-powered vechicle).
...but who knows?

j0ckster,

Where did you see the WASHIS plate? I think I've seen that somewhere in California once upon a time.

SIO2 = SiO2 (Silicone Dioxide) - The most abundant mineral in earth's crust; mostly found as quartz or sand.

Also known as Silica.

OK, j0ckser, I'm afraid you're going to have to go hunt that car down, pull the driver over and demand an explanation of the license plate.

And now that I'm actively looking for personalized plates, I found myself having to explain what "HOSEREH" means to hubby the other day.

He wasn't familiar with Bob & Doug McKenzie.
