Hi All

In short we need to upgrade our Mitel 3300 CX-II box to the latest release. We are being screwed over by BT/Mitel asking us for nearly £800 for them to do it themselves so hoping some people here have some insight on how to do this as we are hoping to do the upgrade ourselves.

Does anyone know where you can find the download for the latest software release for this particular box??

Thanks,

Some food for thought.

You need to make sure you have active SWA (Software Assurance) otherwise when trying to license via Mitel's AMC it will fail and not allow you to license your controller at a later version.
Being a CX II you won't have an issue with RAM as it is already equipped with 512MB.

What version are you currently?

Hi Sarond thanks for your response

We are currently on RL: 4.2 SP2 PR1 and ASL: 10.2.2.15. And yes we do an active SWA.

you should get the Software installer and software from Mitel online
if you dont have access you will need a partner to assist
pretty sure thats a one hop upgrade so it shouldnt be too much hassle.

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

How many hours work does £800 represent?

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

For Bt about 5 hours give or take. Takes about 2 hours max if there are no problems I would say. Taking into account pre checking just to make sure.

I agree with 2 hours for the actual work in a best case scenario.

I imagine that the work is scheduled for after hours making that actually 3 billable hours (or possibly more?)

Throw in some pre-work for downloading software, preparation, backups (pre and post), verifying system and health checks and 5 hours doesn't seem that unreasonable.

When I discuss these things with my customers I clarify that we can't quote for best case scenarios. Yes they can do it themselves for less as long as all goes well but the Risk/Reward factor is not favourable.

My typical quoted time for an upgrade is 4hrs billable. If I take less time, that because I know what I'm doing and make sure it goes well.

Significant time savings can be enjoyed when more systems are involved. A recent upgrade that I did for 11 MCD's, TW, and a Micollab was completed in under 8 hours for example.

I agree with KWB , that 800 may look like a lot but do it yourself and have an issue and i'll bet you wished you paid it.

You may also be charged a callout fee if you have to call them for help that could be more than the 800 .

I would do it the other way round TBH. I would tell customer a billable charge of 3 hours and if all goes well that is what they will be billed. But I would also make sure that they realised that if things went amiss or there were issues to be resolved before even starting then the billable time would be more.

However i agree its not worth the possible problems for anyone who is inexperienced in doing the work...there lies a world of pain.

I've done many upgrades like that before and 2h best case scenario as kwbMitel said is what it takes. We usually quote about 4 hours as well.
