Anyone here old enough to remember Tom Swifties?

"I need a great homerun hitter", said the manager, ruthlessly.

"I can't create any documents", said the PC user, wordlessly.

Great word game, BocaBurger.

I'm not old enough to remember the originals, but I discovered them thanks to Skip in a couple of previous threads.

Some of my originals:
“We’re in the middle of a blackout,” Tom said darkly.
“I’m afraid he was been buried alive,” Tom said gravely.
"If you let me out of jail, I'll just beat him up again," Tom retorted. note: may not be a legally sound definition of 'tort'
“As a matter of fact, I’ve had collagen injected into my a*s,” Tom rebutted.

Note to readers: if you want to think of your own, don't follow these links, as several swifties are listed
[spoiler alert!]
thread1322-903063 Swifties
and
thread1322-904689 Swifties: Kickin' it up a notch
[/spoiler]

I'll try to come up with some new originals.

I'm including the following from the earlier post, just to offer further explanation to those not familiar with Swifties:

Back when I was a boy, in terms of AGE, I remember reading several books in the Tom Swift series, written by Appleton, I believe.

Sprinkled thru his writing, were phrases that become known as Swifties. A typical Swifty might be...

"That's the last time I'll ever pet a lion," Tom said, offhandedly.

Here are a few Swifties that I have collected. Enjoy, if you can.

"Oh Cynthia, darling, come here,
I'll murmur sweet nothings, my dear.
I'll be yours, till cars
Can fly to the stars.
It's true," whispered Tom in Cyn's ear.

"The Venus de Milo is charming;
We must get her moved, free of harming.
The crate, though, won't hold 'er,
We'll chop at the shoulder,"
Said Tom, in a manner disarming.

"This Latin stuff sure is a bind,
These verb conjugations, I find,
I can't hammer down,
And as for the nouns,:
Mensa, mensam... No!" Tom declined.

"I insist on naming the first male insect", said Tom adamantly.

Just a few...

I haven't lost my touch," he said profoundly.

John,

Polishing your Swifty up a tad...

"Has the prisoner lost his touch?" he asked with profound irony.

;-)

Skip,

"Is there really a DOG?" [tongue][/sub]

Skip, you are the king.

or...

"Has the prisoner discovered the truth?" he questioned with a confounded look.

and the Siamese twin inmates didn't understand the last two posts, as they were confused..

OOhhh that's so bad, it's (nah still bad) ;-)

cigless ...

Not a Swifty, but hard to ignore...

And, because the Siamese twin inmates were so confused, the warden placed them in a tiny cell, until they became conformed and finally confirmed.

You should be pun-ished.

I am completely stuffed from that very satisfying meal," the vegetarian said peasfully.

"I have no regrets about becoming a vegetarian," Tom said, fully at peas with himself...

Okay, I'll quit now.

My oatmeal storage warehouse business has mushroomed! (which is not actually a good swiftie, but was off the top of my head)

NYPD Blue's profane dialogue was censored. When Boccho found out, he stared blankly (or blankity-blank-ly?).

The cows were out, he'd he[a]rd. (which actually means different things, with or without the "a", but it's still not a swiftie)

"I alone predicted that the wind would be from the NE," Tom claimed, vanely.
(that's a better swiftie than the prior three, imo)

I hope you don't write code like that" said Tom, buggedly.

[green](triples!)[/green]

"I regret replacing all the shingles," Tom said ruefully.

Code:
[white] rue, "roof," fully[/white]

"I heard about that damn wobbly dinette," Tom said irritably.

Code:
[white] irr (ear = heard?), dinette = table(y), general irritation at the wobble[/white]

Anyone got a quad? The game is afoot!

Look at that neckline" Tom said plungingly.

"Look at what she's wearing" Tom said distressfully, from Brooklyn.

I'll find your lost poodle if it's the last thing I do," Tom said doggedly.

How's this?

"Was that a picture I saw embedded in the track for wheeled equipment," said Tom, "or was it just imaginary?"

Code:

in
a
ry (which, according to dictionary.com, is an abbreviation of railway)[/white]

The answers you get are only as good as the information you give!

Dan,

But Tom didn't say it "imaginarily"...

Tim

That is not quite a T-Swifty.

"Look at that door" said Tom openly.
