I've been participating in this forum and its discussions for the past couple of years and it's amazing how many threads follow this template:

Question: I have this problem at work, and they proceed to present their case.
Responder(s): That's improper management, bad working environment, or poor co-workers. I think you should polish up your resume. It's time to move on.

What happens when you realize the grass is NOT greener on the other side?

As a circle of light increases so does the circumference of darkness around it. - Albert Einstein

Well let me see :
- my department director (along with the rest of the IT department) does not like Notes and resists all attempts to accept new projects with the energy of a man hanging on to a cliff for dear life - even though Notes manages the mail and the only two business-critical apps that the company has
- the IT director is totally clueless about all things IT, and is apparently intent on staying that way
- the net result is that I have to go around practically begging for work, and when I do get some, it has to be presented like a modification of an existing functionality, else it will go to the Java team
- the Java team is horrifically overbooked and understaffed, so it takes them ages to get a project out of the door while I'm begging for work
- the network team is incapable of adding disk space to the regularly overflowing NAS
- every time the NAS overflows, there are countless server issues to deal with, for which we often need the backups
- the network team has already proven itself quite capable of deleting the backups in order to make space available on the NAS

but :
- I'm paid rather well
- I have very little oversight
- I get along well with my direct collegue

You think I should be happy ? I don't. But I put up with it because right now, there's nothing on the horizon.
If I get an offer (or find a place) that gives me tons of work, even for less pay, I'll probably take it.

Pascal.

Well Pascal, There should be job openings in IBM Websphere DataStage TX support in Boca Raton.
