hi..
i have been using the tektronic 780 for a while, recently i come up with a error when printing. when bout to print, a message says "image print life almost over" flashes when at READY. then i try to print a help page from the printer, a error code comes out saying " 2nd BIAS Roller Error" Error #24. they offer a solution in the machine by restarting the machine. i did that and the same error code come up again. does anybody what is the problem or have a service contractor who i could contact that could fix it since xerox doesn't support it.. thanks

if you spin the silver metal shaft inside the printer and look at the back you will see the clutch spining around. You have to remove quite a bit to get to it. I will try and get you some pictures tomorrow.I hope this helps.

I noted the clutch inside the printer. This white clutch appears not to have a wire cable coming from it. And as you mentioned, it literally tearing down the whole printer to get to it..yech!
But I did note the tiny C clip on the inside, and the black screws to remove it. We are going to try a stubby philips to remove it. I see the other assembly above it.
MY god, what have I got myself into..:>))

Hi Printerman and XeroxTech:

I am still working on my Phaser 780. I am also waiting on some other replacement parts to arrive. I may need your assistance once they come in. Thanks for all of the help so far.

Electronics Geek..where do you get parts from?

We are getting some replacement parts from the guy who sold us the printer. It was shipped to us and arrived damaged so instead of returning it to him, he is going to send us some parts to swap out (we must return the broken parts to him).

good for you. here in ONtario Canada, the only place I can get parts is from the 3rd party in the usa.

Xerox Tech: I found the clutch in question..removed, clean, and now re-assembly..I want to thank you VERY much for your help. the spring is a little touchy to position, but at least we found it.
I noted some nodules on the black plastic casing, does it matter which nodule the spring is fitted into?

no it does not matter but after you replace the clutch if you get the error again you will have to remove the clutch and rotate it 180 degrees i cannot tell you how many time i have had to reinstall it.

I NEED TO KNOW WHERE TO GET A TRANSFER ROLLER ASSEMBLY FOR THE XEROX TEKTRONIX PHASER 780-WE HAVE A PRINTER WITH THE ERROR CODE 24 AND I READ XEROXTECH AND PRINTERMAN'S DISCUSSION- VERY INFORMATIVE -IT MADE ME JOIN.
THANKS
WE NEED A SOURCE FOR THIS PART REFURBED IS OKAY (AS LONG AS IT IS REALLY REFURBED)

yes, I agree..but when you say rotate it..can you tell me a point of reference?
FOR AKAD:
the complete assembly from Xerox is VERY expensive..but this is becoming fun, the only part that is refurbed appears to be the clutch. The rest of the assembly appears to need to be cleaned.
NOW the fun part..putting this puppy back together again..maybe I should reprint the disassembly instructions :>))

there is a little metal pin that goes into the back of the clutch, it is part of the shaft. The clutch can go on two different directions. if after you finish the error is there again then remove the clucth and rotate it 180 degrees and put it back on the shaft.

many thanks! shall put this st.bernard back together next week..and see what happens.
If the customer does not want this colour laser back..I will use it, after all this work. :>))

did you take some pictures so that we might be able to help someone else in with this error. If you did i can find a host for them just email them to me.

I think some photos are an excellent idea. I swapped out my some of my broken parts and was able to get a print. No color (only black) appeared in the print so I am still working on my St. Bernard.

only black means the cleaning blade is not functioning correctly. The printer lays down in this order YMCK the cleaning blade is cleaning off the belt before it transfers check the blade assy.

Xerox tech: when replacing the main gears..I am noted a heavy clunking sounds, the gears are not messing..I noted in the service cd, the main gear assembly is not to be removed..I removed it :>((
Is there a way to align the main gears.
I am tearing it down again. oh, joy
