hi..
i have been using the tektronic 780 for a while, recently i come up with a error when printing. when bout to print, a message says "image print life almost over" flashes when at READY. then i try to print a help page from the printer, a error code comes out saying " 2nd BIAS Roller Error" Error #24. they offer a solution in the machine by restarting the machine. i did that and the same error code come up again. does anybody what is the problem or have a service contractor who i could contact that could fix it since xerox doesn't support it.. thanks

yes, we do realize it it s the clutch..its the getting to it.

I know you know that it is the clutch but "ElectronicGeek" did not know.

Regarding the 2nd bias transfer roller-Error 24, I have narrowed it down to the "Second Bias Transfer Roller Assembly" or the "Transfer Roller Cam Solenoid".

The easiest way to find the Second bias transfer roller cam assembly is to remove the second bias transfer roll from the left side of the printer. behind it you will see a silver shaft with two white cams on it. the clutch that is on the end of the shaft is what needs to be replaced, or cleaned and regreased. If you look on page 156 you will see the diagram of the parts. You cannot buy just the clutch you have to get the whole Second bias transfer roller cam assembly but i would not replace the whole assy. That is a pain. If you have any questions let me know and i will try to help the best i can.

Thanks... Where do you access the cam (in order to remove it)? Do you get to it from the left or from the rear?

I appreciate your help.

the left side but do not remove it just rotate it with your hand and look at the back of the printer. You will see the clutch that needs to be replaced

thank you, muchly Xerox Tech..found the clutch..a blue body with a plunger type of metal shaft, with the plastic tab that rests against the white gear..I have cleaned the shaft with 99% alcohol. the metal shaft appears to move easily, the side of the metal shaft has a tiny pin that is attached to the plastic tab that leans against the gear..
would WD 40 sprayed lightly on the metal shaft, bring things back to life..

The part that has the tiny pin on it is the clutch not the blue one. I would take it out and it pulls apart. Clean the inside and regrease.

thank you, shall do that. Will be pleased to get this huge printer out of here & back to the customer.

xerox tech: how is the little pin that is anchored inside the metal shaft and moves in the plastic toggler, safely removed. I noted it is a trianglar shaped. I tried a jewellers screw driver but do not want to damage it. many thank for your invaluable help!

That is not the clutch. The clutch is round and has the two little nubs on it. i hope this helps

I think I found what you are talking about..the round metal (with two nubs on it)..the round metal plunger goes into the blue 'clutch'. the metal plunger has a tiny pin that attaches itself to the black plastic 'toggle'

thank you.

what is the safest way to remove the tiny pin...its appears to be attached to the black plastic toggle thing.

just remove the whole thing it is held on by a screw just make sure when you put it back on you try to get it level. Then take the e-clip off the end of the shaft and the clutch should slide off. the black plastic plunger is not part of the clutch. I will try to get some pictures of this and start a FAQ for this error.

yes, thank you. This apparently is a frequent problem with this printer.

a photo would be good. the part I have, which remains attached to the priner..does not appear as you described.
the small c clip holds the black plunger. the metal shaft (clutch) has the tiny pin embedded in the side..
It appears once this tiny pin is removed..the metal shaft/clutch will literally fall out.

If you look on page 156 you will see the diagram of the part #3 has the clutch on the end. I will get the picture on monday to try and help out.

I am looking at the wrong part..on closer examination..I have part #7 attached to part #8 on page 156..SORRY!!

now I know what I am looking at, which is part# 3..its further in the printer from the rear..now its getting to it.
