tektronic 780 error.... 2

hi..
i have been using the tektronic 780 for a while, recently i come up with a error when printing. when bout to print, a message says "image print life almost over" flashes when at READY. then i try to print a help page from the printer, a error code comes out saying " 2nd BIAS Roller Error" Error #24. they offer a solution in the machine by restarting the machine. i did that and the same error code come up again. does anybody what is the problem or have a service contractor who i could contact that could fix it since xerox doesn't support it.. thanks

xerox does still support the phaser 780. the error is caused by the tansfer roller clutch. usually the cause is the clutch slips. replacing the clutch should resolve the problem but you may also need to have the transfer roller assy itself replaced as well.

is there a way to reset the drum unit counter.

The clutch involves taking the back of the printer apart. It take about 1 hour if you have done it before. The only way to get the clutch is thru a certified tech. You might be able to take the clutch apart and re grease it, that has fixed this error a few times. I will get you the part number. There is no way to reset the drum counter, you have to replace the drum.

I cannot find the part number for just the clutch but here is the part number for the whole assy. 118-9791-00 Second bias transfer roller cam assembly. I think that the clutch from the MPT assy is the same its part number is 118-9761-00.

most manuals whether service or users are useless..I have the rear of the printer off...4 screws.
Is the clutch similar to the old HP style, spray with WD 40 to unstick it?.

This clutch is accessed thru the rear of the machine.
Remove power supply
Toner dispenser motor
LOOSEN DO NOT REMOVE GEAR TRAIN.

By loosening the screws of the gear train you will be able to unscrew and then pull out the clutch and gear together.

Please Note: When replacing clutch it usually is usually 180 degrees out of sync. If you turn on the machine and get one page to print then same error, the clutch is 180 out of sync.

First time I did this job took 2 hours, now 30 minitues start to finish.

tore off the back, I removed the power supply, but I see a huge metal area that I think is the toner dispenser motor I think I will stop..since I am not familiar with this monster of a printer (we specialize in HP & Lexmark).
Until I know the various parts I am looking at..I will stop here..thanks for your help rockdude

did you get the manual? you should use white lithium grease on the clutch. When you pull on the clutch it will pull apart the inside is where you need to clean with a degreaser and then regrease.

thank you! look forward to salvaging this printer.we have the back cover removed, and I am looking at a black circular motor in the area of the toner carrousel.

I am also getting the Phaser 780 Error 24 Message. I used the past forums to try to trouble shoot the problem. I am now trying to locate the clutch and related assemblies, but it is really difficult without a manual. Is it possible for someone to send me the link to enable me to download the manual for this? or can anyone instruct me as to where the "power supply, toner motor and gear train" are exactly so I don't remove the wrong parts. It would be most appreciated. I have been battling this all day.

I am taking my time on this tektronics 780..even with the manual its a horror. From the looks of it..the whole printer has to be torn down..the service manual is not written well. But we continue to try.

Regarding the 2nd bias transfer roller-Error 24, I have narrowed it down to the "Second Bias Transfer Roller Assembly" or the "Transfer Roller Cam Solenoid". Can anyone help me with this?
