The jr college where I'm interning has a win 2k machine where the start menu freezes for a sec, then disappears. It's a Dell, 700 mhz Pentium, 256 mb Ram. When the start>programs is clicked if the user is real fast with the mouse they are able to open a program, but if they take just a few seconds to choose a program the start menu disappears. Ad-aware, s&d, virus scan showed nothing, and I can't think of anything else. Thanks for the help,

It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice.

Does it function okay in safe mode?

Matt J.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Yep

It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice.

you can also google search for MSConfig, its from windows 98 and will show you the startup files, if the computer works good in safe mode then there is an application running in the background somewhere, if you use msconfig, or some other startup list program that shows you the real startup files you can try removing them one at a time to see which one is causing the problem, you might also want to look in your control panel - administrative tools - services and turn off any suspicious services. you can google search the things you are unsure of and some website will probrobly tell you information of what the program actually does.
Thanks
JT
