Hello all,

I have a problem that is affecting all phones (5410's) company wide. I am on version 406 3.2. We have two modules, and a vmpro server.

1)You hit the speaker phone button
2)Dial tone volume starts out low
3)Gradually lowers incrementally until you hear no dial tone.

Anyone have any clue as to what may be happening?

-Steve

I looked at the log when I hit the speaker phone button and got this...

What is a <TLB Data Error> ???

the phone system will probably have rebooted at those times.

only avaya can tell you what they mean. but generally speaking the phone system had a little freak out and rebooted.

if you have enough memory i would upgrade the units

NOTE: The above isnt related, I have traced again and it did not appear.

what you posted was the alarm log. it happens when you first start a trace

I encountered this same issue and could not resolve it after multiple reboots and troubleshooting. Had to end up swapping out 406 for a new one.

That does not sound good.

I did try rebooting the system multiple times as well.
This did not resolve the problem.

Anyone know how the speaker is powered on the phone ?

I assume its coming from the module that its plugged into.
Could it be the power supply is bad ?, I dont have an extra but it would be cheaper to buy that then a new module.

run monitor again.

look for a line after it has connected that says free mem.

if its large enough (and tlpeter will be here any minute to say how much you need as i cant remember off the top of nmy head) then upgrade the 406. we used to get loads of tlb errors through 3.2/4.0 and even 4.1. the only times i have seen them on 4.2 was when i made them happen myself.

What you could try is to clear the alarm logs thru the Monitor.

Open the monitor log in on the IPOffice the goto status>alarms then wait the same error (TLB Data Error)should appear then click on "clear alarm log" reboot the IPOffice and look is it comes back.

What is the distance from the phone system to the phone? What type of cable is it on cat3, cat5, cat5e? Could also be a pwr issue. Does this happen on a phone call not using the speaker?

If all the 5410's are on the expansion modules, you could try changing out the power supplies, I have seen dodgy power supplies cause all sorts of strange issues, and as we know the one's avaya supply aren't always the most reliable :)

are you using noise cancelling? what happens when you hit the mute button just after you hit the speaker button, does it still fade away?

skQCC: It happens to all phones, even plugged one in with a 3 foot shielded cat5e.

HairySupportMonkey : I think you are on to something, I hit mute and the speaker phone volume increases, I take off mute and the speaker phone volume decreases.

How do I turn off noise canceling ? Never had to deal with it before...

Are the modules connected using the supplied 1m screened cable?

Take Care

Matt
I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

mattKnight: Yes, t modules r connected via 3ft shielded cable

Have tried the following and speaker phone volume still decreases on its own:

on the system tab under VCM-
I have changed echo return loss to 0db,3db,6db
and also nonlinear process mode to silence, disabled, adaptive
in many combinations.

on the phone I have disabled ACG on headset, speaker, and handset.

No Go

The volume of the speaker phone does increase a little and stays constant when the mute button is hit.

szuccaro, Matt didn't ask if you used a 3ft shielded cable, he asked if you used the cable supplied with the module, ie. the Avaya supplied blue IP Office cable. There is a difference.
