Hello all,

I have a problem that is affecting all phones (5410's) company wide. I am on version 406 3.2. We have two modules, and a vmpro server.

1)You hit the speaker phone button
2)Dial tone volume starts out low
3)Gradually lowers incrementally until you hear no dial tone.

Anyone have any clue as to what may be happening?

-Steve

Did you try what i asked before?

What you could try is to clear the alarm logs thru the Monitor.

Open the monitor log in on the IPOffice the goto status>alarms then wait the same error (TLB Data Error)should appear then click on "clear alarm log" reboot the IPOffice and look is it comes back.

Do the reboot as folow;

Unplug the IPOffice and the expansion modules, wait 20 seconds turn on all modules and wait untill they are green then plugin the IPO itself.

greetzzz...Bas

spinnicat/Matt: I am using a shielded cable that was bought after the supplied cable failed, was bought at the request of a tech from avaya.

bas1234: I will take the system down later and try that, thanks for that.

ONLY EVER USE THE BLUE CABLE SUPPLIED WITH THE MODULES. FAILURE TO DO SO LEADS TO PROBLEMS INCLUDING THE PERMANENT FAILURE OF MODULES.

Connect a blue cable now and pray that the units haven't been buggered.

sizbut - welcome back!

Take Care

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

Now you got me curious...

What is different about the blue cable??

We have shielded cables that we purchased as per an avaya tech. What is it you know about these "blue" cables ?

The blue cable failed, so we had to get a new one.

What is different about the blue cable though ?
Is it wired differently ? Special material used for shielding?...

Other cables might work, but if you're having problems like you do then use the original BLUE cable. They are shielded and use all 8 pins.

How come the it broke, could it be that the RJ45 socket in the module/ipoffice is broken or making a bad connection?

Did you order a new blue cable ?
It is a SFTP cable and cannot be replaced by just a cable

ACA - Implement IP Office
ACS - Implement IP Office
ACA - Implement IP Telephony
ACA - Voice Services Management

Women and cats can do as they please and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea!

I dont have the original "blue" cable.

bas1234:I dont know why it broke.

tlpeter: Isnt SFTP a shielded cable?

Talked about this with tech, he said that it is a shielded cable. But what I am hearing here, now Im thinking its a special super shielded cable.

As far as I know there is only one type of shielded cable.

Are there more?

hit your options button, scroll to the right and see what your AGC settings are, and also speaker. mine will slowly fade away during a conversation with out the mute on as the background noice tends to cause the gain control to kick in.

You dont have to use the blue cable. you can use most types of cat5 as long as its short. the TDM ports are sensitive so they do tend to require the blue sheilded cable

HairySupportMonkey: I turned AGC off all, and made speaker "less open", still fades, it is also not as loud as it should be.

Monkey go back to the ZOO, read the DOCS!!!!

bas1234: What does "Avaya Expansion Interconnect Cable" mean?

I dont think its the cable, but I am replacing anyway just to make sure.

Sorry HSM but this thread is getting very long, you could ask Avaya to look at this but they will ask the same questions as we do. Especially for the cable seach here on tektip and you'll find al lot more about this cable and other people who tried to use normal cables.
A nother option is to swap expansion modules and see if the problem moves from the on toe the other.

This is from the DOCS,

Expansion Port

This type of port is found on the rear of IP Office control units and external expansion modules. It is used for connecting the external expansion modules to there parent IP Office control unit.

The connection between these ports should only be done using an Avaya Expansion Interconnect Cable. No other cable type should be used.

Expansion Interconnect Cable
The Expansion Interconnect cable is used to link expansion ports between the IP Office control unit and external expansion module (except WAN3 modules).

• WARNING: This is the only cable that should be used for connecting an IP Office control unit to external expansion modules (except for WAN3 modules).

• Supply: One cable is normally supplied with each external expansion module.

Ya I saw that.
What is "Avaya Expansion Interconnect Cable" ?
What makes it different from a normal shielded cable?

What makes it different from a normal shielded cable? "they are all hand made by kevin kennedy

What makes it different from a normal shielded cable?"

- the fact that it is the only cable that you should use. This cable and no other cable, home brew or shop brought. This isn't some con whereby Avaya make a ton of money, its a known sensitive area of the product and the know solution is to only use this cable, the one with which the equipment is tested and approved.

What happens if you don't. All sorts of wierd things. Usually a progressive loss of ports occuring over a period of hours. In some cases the buffers in the expansion port being blown, rendering the unit non-recoverable.

1) Unplug the units now before any permanent damage is done.

2) Take that part number (700213457), plug it into Google and pay $15 for a new cable and hope that's the only damage to your wallet rather than needing to replace the modules.
