Hi,
I'm trying to install SMGR on VMWare Workstation 12 just for testing purposes, but I'm unable to make it work. After deployment and configuration it keeps telling "Maintenance : SMGR Post installation configuration is In-Progres" when I login to console. Web page does not work at all.
Has anybody tryed this before? Any idea?

Yeah, I doubt it'd work. Even if it did, once you patched it past a certain point, it'll probably fail hardware checks for minimum CPU/RAM/HDD.

Actually RAM, HDD and CPU are OK since I'm using a high-end desktop (Xeon 8 cores, 20GB RAM)

Its supported on vsphere, not vmware workstation. Be patient? Otherwise, ESXi.

I was just wondering if there's a trick to make it work on VMware Workstation because I need to do some tests on my computer with no significant complications. If there's not such trick then I will certainly have to find another way.

I doubt it. If it's looking for specific things on it's intialization scripts, hack up those or fiddle with the VMXs/VMDKs.

Maybe install one on Esxi and export the whole thing as-is installed and configured and try to spin that up. Otherwise, if there is a trick, you'd probably spend more time figuring out what it is than just getting another hard drive for ESXI and tear out the drive running the server now ;)

The Post Install Maintenance may take a half hour or more. If you login run ps -ef and watch. You should see some changes and should see postgres transactions occuring. If it doesn't finish up in an hour I would say you're not going to get it to work.

I assume you are trying to install a 7.x SMGR OVA on Workstation. I'm a little surprised that it doesn't work. If you can't get it to directly install on Workstation you could try a nested installation. You can install AVP or ESXi in VMware Workstation (directly from an ISO image) then try installing SMGR OVA on that AVP/ESXi instance. But I would probably fiddle with Workstation a bit first. Maybe give the SMGR VM 2 NICs and be sure it has enough disk, cpus, and memory.

Well, fellows. It works! Just needed to wait more than an hour...

Thanks everybody!
