Hello all,
It's my first time posting but I have been a member for some time and usually with all the knowledge here, I have been able to figure things out.
However, in the interest of making the customer happy, I may require more help.
A customer will be opening a new store several miles from his primary office which currently has an IP Office 5.0 (8) They would like to link the two sites via a VPN to setup a SCN with a static address at each end. I have found and read the FAQ about how to setup such a connection but I have two questions regarding this, hopefully the answers aren't somewhere obvious already. Anyway, As I wrote, the existing side has a 5.0 (8) with no current VCM channels or voice networking licenses. Question 1: Do you recommend installing the same build at the new site or should I sell the new 6.0 and try to have the client upgrade at the first store? Question 2: If I install the 5.0 at the new site, do I need the VCM Channel licenses and the Voice Networking Licenses at each side?
I feel that if I upgrade the first store to the 6.0, then I only require the Voice Networking Licenses, is this true?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

If you are building a SCN you need licenses regardless of release. You definately need VCM's in both sites. If they are not using any of the features related to SCN(centralized VM, hot desking etc) and they simply want 4 digit dialing and the ability to transfer, then keep them at R5 and just build an IP line between the 2 sites and no licenses are needed. It's always recomended to have the same release at all sites, I've seen them work w/out though.

If the customer is into spending some money, then sell the world. Otherwise, you can do this pretty cheap, but you definately need VCM's at both sites. I'm kind of dreading my first R5 upgrade tp R6, cause the licensing must be a nighmare in a complicated switch(IP endpoints, IP lines etc).

Figure it out damn-it!

Thanks so much shine. I'll see if the customer will ever need the features you wrote about. If they do need the VM Pro working together, I figured I'd have to upgrade (yikes) but if both units are 6.0(18) would I still need vcms on each side or just voice networking licenses? Wait, there are no vcm licenses required in the 6.0 right?
