Set up HTTP file server - phones reply with HTTP 1 -1

Hello, I have a IP500v2 8.1(69. The setup will have approx 200 9621G telephones, so I am trying to setup a windows 7 PC to act as the HTTP server for the Phone firmware files. In the

http://wwwroot

directory of this PC, I have downloaded the newest 96xx phone firmware files, as well as the 46xxxsettings.txt file. I have installed IIS on my windows 7 PC, turned off windows and all other firewalls. In manager I have configured the following:

LAN1 IP Address: 192.168.42.1
HTTP Server address: 192.168.42.5 (address that is statically assigned to Win7 PC running IIS)
Phone File Server type: custom

For some reason, when I plug a phone in, it obtains a new IP from the IPO DHCP table, but when it searches for the firmware, it responds with a HTTP 1 -1, and doesn't download the firmware or 46xxxsettings.txt file.

Any idea's??

I can browse to

http://192.168.42.5

and see all the contents on the server, so i know the IIS must be working properly?

Do you see the HTTP Server address configured in the telephone?

I have tried IIS multiple times and i find that it doe snot work well.
It needs some more tweaking and mostly i just don't use it.
I use MV_iptel which is much better and has more options like FTP, TFPT, HTTP and HTTPS.
Change the ini file and point it to the manager folder.
This way you can upgrade manager and then your phones has the right firmware too.

As another alternative - Apache
possibly a bit heavy weight (it is used bay a hi proportion of internet servers!) but the price is right £0.00

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.

Apache is not even needed.
When you install Centos minimal then starting the HTTPD service is enough
Apache is not even needed.

When i have a Linux apps server installed then i use that one as putting the files in the

http://www folder

does do the job fine

isn't HTTPD on a centos installation Apache (it is on all my other red-hat based systems)?

Apache is a ubuntu thing and httpd is a RHEL thing.
So i think they are different.
But i am not sure as i am still learning Linux

they are the same software just named differently
if you brows to a httpd server without any default pages the red hat banner identifies itself as Apache.

Windows web server works well, just know your stuff.
You can test any http server from a remote location, put a file test.txt in the root of the http server and from remote browse to

http://<ip

address server>/test.txt then your test file must open.

Intrigrant, somehow IPphones just don't find the files.
I have seen this before while i could pull files by a webbrowser.
I just avoid it now and use MV_iptel anyways

I tought you well, I never use the build in web services from M$ as that is way too much work to get it working.
But it can work and there is a doc somewere from Avaya telling how to do it with IIS 6.

I am installing around a 180 phone system (9611G's). For now, I am plugging in the phones, and have my laptop set-up as a temporary http server for the phones firmware when they boot for the first time. After they are upgraded, will there be any issues if I changed manager back to memory card as the phone file server? Like if the phones ever got rebooted, would it re-grab older firmware from the memory card??

Systems HTTP as in Manager? I keep getting a http -404 error when I set phone file server type to manager.

I will end up switching it memory card after all the phones upgrade. Had like 180 phones, and I figured it would be much more efficient and faster to go through http server.

Yankblan, the files are too big.
Just a couple of phones is not a problem but even then the SD card really cannot keep up.
With a 180 phones you will need a steady http server for upgrading them.
When it is just for serving a 46xxsettings.txt then it is ok.
The problem is the size of the firmware and the limited bandwidth of the SD card.

Turn the FW back on... make sure you are on a Home or Work network, then double check that Port 80 is open. Win7 can be quirky depending on your settings. Best to just confirm you have your network options set to anything but a public network.

Alternatively... Turn the FW back on, and use HFS - its a single file HTTP server... no bloatware. So simple you'll never use IIS unless you're on a 2008R2 or better going forward.
