Could someone please advise me what cable do I need to run out the back of a Dell Inspiron 5000 Laptop - the TV out being a seven pin connection to the TV being a 4 pin connection. I cannot find the 7 pin cable at all. It would appear the 4 pin normal S-Video plug will plug into the same socket, but of course there will still be 3 pins short. Will it still work???
Please help as I have had the salesman runaround for days now.

When you got your laptop, didn't you get that little 7pin-to-RCA cable with it? I have Latitude CPx and it came with one of these. Now, my tv does not have S-video input, but S-video-to-RCA cable is probably easier to find, then DELL-7pin-to-S-video.

Just in case this post is useful to you, here is DELL part number for the cable that I have:

KIT,CBL/TSH,COAX,TV OUT,CRNA
DELL p/n 07309P

Good luck.

Is there any way to connect an IBM Thinkpad A21e to your television in order to play DVD movies.

You probably have already taken care of this but you can use a standard 4 pin S-video cable with the 7-pin. The output uses the outside 4 connectors for S-video, all 7 pins are used if you want a composite video connection. Hope this helps.

About the IBM, not sure of the model but if your video card supports video out and you have either an s-video or rca output then you should have no problem with connecting it to your tv.

the four pin cables should always work. ibm has the 7-pin connector on the back of its laptops, but works fine with the normal 4-pin. if you really want the 7-pin, try

i personally haven't tried it. the three pins in the middle are non-standard and are used differently according to manufacturer.

cheers

Can you let me Know if there is a way to connect a Acer 604ter laptop via any method to a tv ,mainly so I can watch my VCD's via the Tv
Thanks for any info

I have Toshiba Satellite S274. It has a 3.5 m.m RCA jack. I connected the RCA jack to TV using a RCA cable (Yellow) to the Video In (yellow) on the TV. When I play a DVD in the DVD rom, it does not appear on the TV screen. Is there a switch to toggle between the lap-top screen and TV or does it play on both.

Answer to TV VASU

Hold on to your S-Video for your laptop. Don't know when you may need it.........

You need as RF Modulator. Once connected will convert all your DVD signals to TV

This device allows the use of video components (like a DVD player, camcorder or video-game system) when your TV is not equipped with an audio/video jack.

.... Recoton RF Modulator Model: V645, Model DVD647 or Model RTNV649

All are made by Recoton. For some idea on hoe this stuff works to transfer your signals check the following " How Stuff Works" article

Did you get this working on your Laptop as i have a Del Latitude cp610 and i am using a 4 pin s video to Scart Lead from Maplin but it still does not work. Any idea's

Response for TV Vasu and beach4

RF Modulator is not required if your TV has RCA inputs which it sounds like it does. What matters is the output from your laptop. If your laptop has an RCA video out then make sure your laptop's video driver supports NTSC TV out (Just because it has an RCA does not necessarily mean it has TV out). You should be able to toggle between video settings from your monitor settings. Most likely the signal will not automatically be sent since there is no way for the laptop to sense that something is plugged in to the video jack. Therefore it doesn't make sense to have the laptop send that signal at all times especially considering power and resource limitations.

Try right-clicking anywhere on your desktop (not on top of another icon). Select Properties. Goto the Settings tab. Click on advanced. Most likely the TV out send toggle is here.

When I connect the laptop to the TV with a 4-pin s-video-cable (The input to the TV is a scart)I only get black and white picture. Can anyone help me? I want colors!

Jonts

I've got a problem with my connection between the laptop and the tv via the s-video cable!
It's all black and white!
I tried to change the settings in the properties, but no luck! I tried changing the NTSC and PAL setting too, no luck!
When I have the PIP(picture in picture) mode on my TV, the little picture is in color!!!!
Anybody have a idea?

I've got the same problem. The whole screen is b/w. I use s-video (4 pin) to RCA cable. Anyone knows anything about this?

I have a laptop from Gericom (model OVERDOSE). I want to connect it with the TV. Can somebody help me in this regard! Which cables/adaptor would I need for this!
Thanks in advance.

I am trying to connect my IBM-T20 S-Video Out to a TV. Everything looks cool except there is no colour too. The strange thing is that my S-Video Out from my laptop is a 7-pin female while a typical S-Video Wire is a 4-pin male. Could the other 3 unused pin be Red Blue and Green respectively. My TV is also a SCART input. Anyone out there who knows anything please advice :)

To: laptop to TV

I am also trying to use s-video into a scart converter on my tv. I get no picture at all but i'm told that if i got a black and white picture this would be because the s-video to scart cable or converter socket does not actually work (apparently a lot of them don't). There are ones that do work that are advertised on the net, although they look a little expensive! I'd like to know from anyone that had success by buying a new converter (before i do so myself...)

I wanted to take the output of my COMPAQ 1720 TO A TV so
I bought the S-Video to TV(3 RCA Jacks) and it works, but the focus is terrible. I wanted to use a 35 inch TV for a computer class but nobody can read the screen. I tried lowering the laptop resolution but no good. The projector is a $2000 answer but who has the money.

Anyone know of a cheap remedy?

I have successfully connected my IBM T20 laptop to my Sony Wega 36 inch TV. All would be well except the Sony picture only shows about 60% of the laptop desktop or DVD or Word doc or anything else. I have messed with resolution sizing the active screen etc. etc. etc. but can not fix. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Some asked for a solution from the web. Here it is:

I have an IBM TP R30 with 4-pin SVideo out. I had the same problem as most of the visitors here: with a simple converter it gave a black and white picture (personally I think the reason of this is that the SVideo signal cannot be converted to RCA(on the scart) just by switching the wires as most of the converters does).
After buying this from the net, 20 USD and free shipping is not much I think, everything works well, I have beautifull colors :))

Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop GR series with video out.
I used a cable from my Nikon digital camera (to conntect it to a TV) to connect my laptop to RCA input in TV.
But I can't make this thing work. The only thing that shows in TV is just a shadow and it keep moving.

Please help

thanks
