Unfortunately, I am in Seattle for the MS-MVP Summit, and Tek-Tips does not allow a local filestore to make this easy.
Workaround: member gpalmer711 has written several great FAQs. Click the FAQ button at the top of the forum, enter a FAQ comment, and ask Greg (a great guy) to email you the software as an attachment.
Sorry but I'm having a few problems with this latest version. I get the 'Exe File created without a problem' message but running the new exe gives 'CreateProcessWithLogonW() failed with error 1326' error.
Also (but minor) the 'Help > Instructions' menu item opens with 'The page cannot be found'.
I thought this may be a corrupt download so downloaded again but with the same results.
Hi Rick,
It seems no matter how much I test I can't get it exactly right. The help thing is just a typo, I have corrected that now and will upload a new setup exe later.
Can you let me know a few things about what you are tring to do and I will see if I can help you.
Are you entering a User Name and Password into the software or using as User Name that does not have a password.
Can you show me the entries you are putting into the Executable File and File Path boxes.
Does the user name you are entering into the software have administrative rights?
Regards

Any feed back is appreciated.
Our XP PC's have 2 accounts, the built-in 'Administrator' account and a password-protected 'Windows User' account (in the 'Power Users's group).
What I'm trying to do is to use your program to let 'Windows User' run program installers using 'Administrator' credentials.
I'm entering 'Administrator' in the 'User name' box and our Administrator password in the 'Password' box. We don't use domains, only workgroups, so I'm leaving the 'Domain' box empty (although, as a test, I did enter the workgroup name once but still had the same result).
I've used the 'Browse' function to select the source exe and this appears to work well, irrespective of whether the exe is stored in the 'C:\Program Files\Project 1' folder created by the installation of 'RunAsUser' or elsewhere. (I've only browsed for local files so far, not files on network drives).
Hi Rick,
From what I can remember from my testing the 1326 error had somthing to do with the way the software stores the Path and Exe file. For example if the file is stored in c:\my folder\folder2\ then it must be entered as c:\my folder\folder2 then the file name will just be the filename.exe
If you are entering the details as above then let me know.
Also note that I have uploaded a new version of the software to the website.

Hi Greg, I am not sure if I am doing something wrong but... I get the message createprocesswithlogonw()failed with error 1327 when I try to open the created file. Any suggestions?
Matt.
I have just had a further look into this on the Tek-Tips VB forum and it would seem that this can also be due to certain windows updates being installed your machine.
I will look into this further and let you all know when I get anything more.

Our Win XP PC's are usually always updated with the latest Critical Updates as soon as they are available.
Re: Your reply 'For example if the file is stored in c:\my folder\folder2\ then it must be entered as c:\my folder\folder2 then the file name will just be the filename.exe. If you are entering the details as above then let me know.' then my answer is 'Sorry, I'm not sure I understand this. I just use the "Browse' button. Is there anything else I should be doing?
Hi Greg, I'd have to say that I still can't get this to work. It may well be me. I have tried downloading the latest xp updates to see if that was it but no joy. My initial problem was that my user account did not have a password but even with one when I click the created test.exe from that account my application still won't run. I will keep watching this space though.
Matt.
if you can't get it to work then click on this FAQ faq779-4300 and you should be able to click on the "Send gpalmer711 a comment about this FAQ" link. If you then request me to email you a copy of the software I will be happy to do this.
bradman666,
Are you still getting the same error or a different one?
Here is a list of the 4 most common errors and their resolutions.
1327
This means that you have not entered a password. As required by Microsoft's in-Built Security features, you must set up a password for administrator accounts or accounts with administrative rights if you wish to use this RunAsUser facility.

No Path has been entered into the Working Directory box, or the path entered does not exist. Make sure that you enter a valid folder path. If you use the Browse button then this will be entered automatically.
1326
You have entered an incorrect User Name or Password, please check you data and try again.
2
You have not entered a path into the Executable File box or the path does not exist. Make sure you have entered valid data, or use the browse button.
Also if anyone wants a more personal response you can find my email address in the help section of the software, please feel free to email me. I can then post any new findings here.
