There are many threads regarding this manoeuvre, but still few mysteries:
- When SD card (from running control unit, so all needed stuff already set – config, licenses, security settings) moved to new IPO 500 V2 control unit security setting are default – so are this file stored only at control unit only?
- How “locking” control unit to SW version at first telephone call actually works?
- Is there source for detailed description of booting sequence (what is loaded from control unit and what from SD card?
- If control unit is “locked” at R 9.1 to run SD with SW on 10.0 upgrade licenses are needed. But, e.g. if control unit is “locked” at R 9.1 is it possible to run it with SD with SW on 8.1 (and expect to work normally)?

If you have a new chassis then all you need is to put in the SD card and plug it in

if you have a used chassis and the first call has been made on a lower release than the unit you are trying to replace you need an upgrade license

if your release is R10 and your chassis is lower you need to upload the licenses via .xml file AND need the upgrade license as well

If your used chassis is a higher release than the one you are replacing you are fine as they are downwards compatible not sure about R10

...and security settings are held linked to the system, not the SD card, so they will be whatever the settings of the new control unit are, eg. defaulted.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Thanks. But more questions :)
How could it be checked at which version an old chassis was locked (by first call)? I check booting sequence log but did not noticed such info. Any idea?
I have one old chassis so I would know could it be used as spare one (and for which version).

Either look at the licence tab which shows the version it will work at without an upgrade licence, or run the upgrade wizard on the unit and that will show which release it can work out without any extra licencing.
