Hi Everyone,

I appreciate the time and effort put into the posts I have placed. The bottom line is this. I have to still buy a VCM module and then on top of that I have to buy IP end points for every IP device I connect to the system. This is going to be a complete bollocks for the enviroments were we have used virtual extensions in groups to send to different messages etc at night but thanks Avaya for a complete cock up on the SME product. i have ran a few different configs on this and the Aura is only just a bit more expensive and at least you can share the licenses across a multi-site solution etc.

Thanks,
Marshall

mrmarshall, virtual extensions will continue to function it's only physical devices that need the licence as far as I'm aware :)

Aura is only just a bit more expensive" that was exactly Avaya's goal, to blur the edges of the two products. They want the IP office to be a small system (ignore the SME label) when you approach the Medium it becomes very expensive and so you would start to consider the Aura, this is by no means an accident :)

Yeah the pain you have with that is the continued engineering training commitments and service agreements with Avaya. It just stinks of Nortel EMEA products all over again.

I know this might seem like amateur hour but I have read the Avaya literature on the license migration etc. But I just want to check. If I buy a VCM does it come enabled with all the VCM channels enabled or is this an additional cost on top of the card as normal.

Example of a config I have done.

I have a client who has an E1 or ISDN30e they have 12 channels enabled on this and they have went for VM pro Prefered or with every nonsense they call it. They require 12 dect handsets and 80 IP phones.

Version 5
The current config I have would have been a VCM64 with an additional 14 channels on the VCM.

This would allow them to make calls accross the external lines and calls to the voicemail.

Usual othe components IP500 base stations etc

Version 6

Do I spec the following

92 IP end points a VCM card and them the control unit line card and base stations or do I still require VCM channels on top of this.

Thanks,
Marshall

Forget about the above quote I have found the answer. The Avaya guides are as good as usual all over the place.

Thanks,
Marshall

For V6 you will not need the VCM channels and the VCM 64 card comes with 24 IP endpoints "thrown in" so you would just need 64 IP endpoint licences, but at £40 to £50 each it still ends up costing more than it would :)

Yeah the pain is $75 a seat when you only have 12 lines which used to be a VCM and 16 channels on the VCM.

Marshall

68 even, that's around £3100 for the endpoint licences versus the £900 for the VCM channels you mentioned, quite some difference for the same kit and as you get larger the cost difference widens :)

The VCM is now 32 or 64 channels for the same price as you had it with 4 channels.
Also now you get 12 ip end point licenses with the VCM card.

Do not think that Aura is just a bit more money!
If you want support for it the price will increase dramatic!!!

Sorry, tlpeter is correct you only get 12 (4VCM lic x3) free endpoints so you can make that £3600 in R6 licencing versus £900 for R5...an even bigger difference :)

that scenario mrmarshall posted is a perfect example of how they fucked up massively here.

£2200 more for the same end result? in the middle of a "recession"? yet they try and market it like they are doing people a favour? clueless c*nts.

Tom, you think that's bad, work it out for 200 users where they want 10 people at a time to be able to work from home on softphone on a rota basis (not an unusual request) only answer is 200 teleworker licences as oppose to 10 softphone on old licencing and the endpoint licencing as oppose to VCM licencing the difference between R5 and R6 = Over £18,000 oh yes for the same kit same config...Wow :)

It is hardly mentioned in the techbulletin but there are no issues mentioned either!

Did they forget or did they leave it out on purpose ?
