Is there a single, tidy, high-school vocabularly level term for a "person asking the question"?

I'm writing a technical article which begins with a list of questions that have been asked about a topic. The next sentence is "In each case, the ______ had a fundamental misunderstanding of the...".

Questioner? Question asker? Question poser? Inquisitor?

For now I have "the person asking the question".

Given the evidence of a specatular double post of mine in another forum (spectacluar in that they are seperated by a about 6 hours) I'd have to agree that it is the submit time

The acronym "OP" is commonly used all around the web, meaning either "Original Post" or "Original Poster," depending on context. I've seen it on many, many boards, and am sure it's not a Tek-Tips thing.

I quite like inquisitor because of its sinister nuances (I'm sure someone will make the obvious comment from MPFC)

Of course. Torquemada comes to mind.

They tried to get the Grand Inquisitor to stop torturing people, but they just couldn't Torquemada it.

Doesn't "interlocutor" mean questioner?
I was unaware of Interlocutor's second definition:
2 : a man in the middle of the line in a minstrel show who questions the end men and acts as leader

I'm pretty sure that if interlocutor is in a highschooler's vocabulary at all, it only carries the primary connotation: Someone who takes part in a conversation.

SilentAiche,

When I first read "in my 11:49 post..." I thought you were a bit daft. I hadn't noticed that feature yet! Thanks for pointing it out to me. I've been wishing for that feature for some time.

You're suprised I would notice the [red]tim[/red]e?

P.S. - it doesn't mean I'm NOT daft...

With all due deference to the many excellent suggestions posted thus far, in the context of the original post, wouldn't the words 'speaker' or 'subject' have been more than adequate for the stated audience?
