I am currently on a laptop in a hotel and have this linked to the internet wirelessly.

I have a VPN connected using PPTP to a Linksys RV082. I can ping my IP Office unit on 10.1.2.4 and it replies.

Phone Manager will not list the unit as it only uses broadcast and will not find hte unit over a separate subnet.

I shared my WIFI connection with my lan port and plugged hte 5610SW IP in but it never connects.

I plugged a second laptop into my lan port and it can not ping through to the IP Office unless I add a route, so I am assuming this is the problem with the 5610 and I can`t a dd a route to this.

Quite simply I want to connec teither my softphone or my 5610 is there any way to do this with the setup I have. Is there any software or any way of making the broadcast work across the subnet? Maybe there is a some third party softfone software that will work with the IP Office.

I have managed to ru system monitor successfully!

I wonder why Avaya Phone Mnager cna only use broadcast when I know hte IP Address already, can it be made to use IP Address instead of braodcast?

Any help woudl be appreicated.

Thanks

Kevin

go into the discovery window when it opens and overwrite the 255.255.255.255 with your systems IP address, click refresh done.
If you plug your 5610 into your Laptop tehn you need to add a route in your laptop to make the connections and through wireless and who knows how many connections and the slow hotel network you will probably not be happy with the voice quality but you can always try.
Softphone might be your better chance but if you have a wired connection you can also use the 5610 and put all settings in manually (call server file server gateway..)

insanity is just a state of mind

1. typing the IP address into the discovery box does nto work. It still finds no units. I can ping the unit and system monitor successfully attaches so I can defientiyl communciate with the iP Office (406v2 with v5 Q3 software).

2. I have tried adding numerous differnet combinations of routes to my laptop but the only way I coudl get a second laptop to get a reply to ping was by ading a route to the second laptop. I tried the second laptop to replicate the 5610 but with some ability to diagnoise what was goign on.

Can you give me an example of the route I will need?

This is my laptop routing table with the VPN Active:

Also I added the route 10.2.1.0 in the table above

3. If I hard code an ip address on the subnet into the IP office I get a message subnet conflict.

I am currently trying to set up RRAS on one of my office Win 2008 servers as according toa few google searches this can forward the broadcast over the VPN.

Speed is not an issue, the network here is fine. (I used to connect without a problem on a 56k vodafone modem a long time ago)

The problem may be something blocking the port that manager uses for discovery and connection (50808 by default) but this can be changed :)

Progress is being made:

I have created a RRAS server in my network and port forwarded 47,1723 and 1701 to the server, including forward broadcst to remote network and on the router allowing VPN passthrough.

I also had to disable the firewall on both the windows Server and the Laptop, these cna be re-enabled later.

Manager can now connect and modify the IP Office unit.

However, what |I need to work - Phone Manager - does not find any units initially and then when I put the IP address in it discovers it. Although it does nto display any users. I can manually type a user and after a few minutes the user list completes.

It connects and softphone works but when I try to enable VOIP in phone manger I get a new error:

"Failed to register with IP office for VOIP."

Now searching google etc but any ideas anyone?

Thanks

kevin

This is why Avaya made the VPN software for the 5610 and 5621.
You then only need a supported VPN router for this.
The will build it's own VPN tunnel and appears to be local at the office.

When you pay peanuts, you get monkeys!

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Sarcasm, it's only one of the services I offer.

Same problem - Failed to register with IP office for VOIP - but have tried various things now:

Deleted and re-added user.
Rebooted everything
Started Com+ service as tech tip 137
AM using Windows 7 - is this a problem?
Have faststart ticked
No login code for user in telephony.
IP Office v 5 Q3
Softphone from v5 Q4

Cant find anything else o
relating to my problem on search engines so wait for help please!!!

Thanks

You only forwarded 3 ports ?
Why don't you open up the tunnel completely ?
It is a vpn and you need a lot of ports open for this.

A VPN phone would be easier. Maybe you cant use it because your using wireless though? They do make wireless bridges, not sure how the quality would be, but it would be the same as going through your laptop.

I dont normally have a 5610 with me when I am on my laptop.

It was at my in-laws house where it has worked fine for 5 years, and when we purchased it the VPN Phones Licences were not available.

When I had IP Office 3 with a Windows 2003 RAS server 5 years ago everything worked fine. I dont use the Phone Manager Pro often but it has nto worked for a couple of years. I talk to Westcon and Nimans but no one has ever hear dof it not working!

I simply install a VPN install the software and it does nto work. I understand now about Broadcast packets not traversing subnets, so why did AVAYA write Phone Manger pro to use Braodcast!!! System Montior doesn`t and works fine.

It all seems extremely comlex when basic VOIP/SIP SKYPE, etc works out of the box. I have 7 SIP incoming only lines from Messagenet and DIDWW which I can simply install a SIP phone on my PC and redirect them. They work!

I have outgoing SIP accounts with Callwithus and Dualtalk and both of them again work if I install a softphone on the laptop.

I wonder why all the free products work fine but AVAYA at around £5,000 just refuses to work. Unfortunately being 5 years old I dont get support from AVAYA or any suppliers now.

Anyway I have to find another way of working having spent two days trying to solve this, so close yet so far!

Thanks for everyones help, we nearly got there!

As a last question, how do I open up all the ports on the VPN?

I assume that all ports are open through the VPN when I turn off the firewall on the Laptop and RRAS Server. The firewall on the RV0* is still on.

The RV08 is forwarding 47, 1701, 1719, 1720, 50700-50899 to the RRAS server. But I had assumed that Ionly neede dto forward ports to set up the VPN and once the VPN was in use the RV08 woudl not be involved.

In case any one is confused as to where we reached:

PC Phone Mnager pro now sees the IP Office and logs in but fails to connect to VOIP.

So will operate in Phone Manager mode but not softphone mode.

Happy New Year everyone and thanks again for your help so far.

Phone manager pro uses broadcast to locate the ip office. However, If you put the correct address in the ip address field it does work correctly using unicast. BLF also uses broadcast for updates (but again for the 1st 10 clients on a remote subnet will also use unicast)

This shoudl just work - but I have had issues in the past where H323 registrations from softphones don't release correctly. Look in sysmon and find out if there are any h323 registrations - clear them and start again. The other thing to check is when softphone running is there a process called iClarity running?

Take Care

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

I tried the same to test your case. I kept the same message as you stated : 'Unable to connecto to...'.

The solution in my case was to delete the IP-extension that had been used for the softphone:

Close Phonemanager
Merge
Recreate the H323 extension with the same number as before.
Merge

Restart Phonemanager, tick enable voip in the phonemanager tab.

Hi

I have already delted and re-added the H232 Extension and this did not solve the problem, but I will try again.

iClarity is not running, should it be? I used procexp and PhoneManager.exe has one child process SPServer.exe.

There is only one registered phone in SYSMON which is a 5621 hardphone and should be there. I am assuming that you are only referring to softphone registrations when you say clear them.

I will post once I have delted and re-added the extension.

>iClarity is not running, should it be?

No

Hi

Thanks for all the help, but as from Sunday the IP Office stoppped responding. Basically disappeared off the network.

As I am not back in the office until next week I can do nothing more at present.

As the DS phones are still working, I will post separate question to see if nay one has any ideas as to hwo to contact the IP Office.

Happy New Year!
