I have 6 phone lines, a Compact DR2 6x16, an ATA, and an analog auto-attendant system (non-nortel).

I programmed the line access for the ATA extension to include all 6 lines. I programmed the ring to be on for all 6 lines for the ATA extension. The only time the ATA sends a ring to the auto-attendant is if a call comes in on the first line. There is never a ring for calls coming in on lines 2 thru 6. I need this ATA to ring to the automated-attendant for all calls coming in on any line. Can someone please tell me what needs to be done?

you are confusing me ..
Do you want the person at the ext with the ATA to answer the call or the Auto Att. ? I am not sure if you can have multiple line apperances on the ATA. Remember it is just a analog device. Most times I have a ext going to an ATA I have only one line set to ring on it and then give them access to the line pools .
Please explain exactly what you are trying to do here? If you find a tip helpful Please take a moment to mark it as such.

If a call comes in on line 1 and the ATA isn't already occupied, I want the ATA to send a ring to the device attached to it.

If a call comes in on line 2 and the ATA isn't already occupied, I want the ATA to send a ring to the device attached to it.

Same goes for lines 3 through 6. 1 ATA. 6 inbound lines that may hit it for a ring. Is this possible?

If this is not possible - what kind of device do I need to attach to my KSU in order to have an single-line analog device capable of receiving rings from any line that happens to ring?

Since the time of my last message I have finally received an email containing a DR2 manual in which I found a way to resolve this issue to my satisfaction. Thank you to all who read the question. If anyone can use a DR2 manual, please feel free to communicate that to me.

Tomcat123,
Any third party voice mail system will not work as cleanly as any flavor of Star Talk. Would I be correct in guessing you are a very small firm using a computer as an answering machine?
ATAs should be programmed for two intercom appearances. They do not work with more that I am aware. With only two intercoms, you only have two channels to your 'voice mail' for your six incomming lines. But a normal Voice/Fax/Data Modem usually has one port anyway... If not you can see from the above the multiples involved.

Good luck.

So, for example, Flash *6623 should ring extension 23, correct? I try this and the phone just remains silent. Is there anything in the configuration of the extension on the ATA that must be in place for this to work?

Tomcat123
Actually Flash * 6 6 2 3 should activate voice call not a ring. try just flash * 2 3.

The two Intercom appearances cannot give you simultaneous access what they do is give you a second dial tone to let you make the transfers that you would need to make on normal calls. More than two don't help and less than two will not work. JerryReeve

Something was just broken on this web site and my reply got misdirected. That was for a different thread.

I have a similar problem 6 lines, ATA1, 616, 6 lines assigned and all set to ring only line 1 rings.... what was the solution you discovered in the DR2 manual?

hd,
What equipment do you have in place?
