I have a new IP Office 500 unit and I performed a software upgrade that failed. Now I am not able to connect to the unit through the Manager software. When I power the unit on, I get all solid red lights on the front, a solid green C/F light on the back and no CPU light. Any ideas?

try the reset button on the back. failing that try to DTE it.

Never argue with an idiot. bystanders won't be able to tell the difference.

Presing the reset button works as follows:

0 to 5 secs (CPU light is off)
None

5 to 10 secs (light is Orange)

Reboot when free with new incoming/outgoing call barring. A reboot using the reset button is recorded in the Audit Trail

10 to 30 secs (light is Flashing orange)

Immediate Reboot
Erase the configuration, alarm log and audit trail. Immediate reboot without waiting for active calls to end.

30 to 40 secs(light is Red)
Erase All.
Erase configuration, alarm log and core software.

Over 40 secs(light is Green)
None
None

I've tried the reset button several times and it does nothing at all. I've tried holding it anywhere from 5-60 seconds in various lengths and nothing ever happens. It doesn't even reboot after I try and reset. How do I go about the "DTE" process? Thanks!

We really should ask why it failed, How did you try and upgrade it and at which point did it fail?

This is what I see in HyperTerminal when I connect with a serial cable. However, I am not able to enter any commands at the blinking cursor.

It transferred the image and failed while performing the upgrade. I've used the same file for upgrading two other IP 500 units. I rebooted it after it failed and this is what I'm stuck with.

transferred the image?

do you mean sending an offline config into the unit? thats different to upgrading. were you trying to upgrade the firmware or do something else?

You need to have hyperterminal open and pull the plug on the IP500, start hitting ESC like crazy as you plug it in, and don't stop until it looks like you can enter the AT command.

I've tried hitting escape while powering it up on different computers many times and I still just get the same screen I posted earlier. I guess I'm just going to send it in for repair.

Good thing is as least they are cheap...well cheaper than a 406/412 anyway :)

have you tried typing in AT and hit enter at that moment in Hyper terminal?

Is your SmartCard still in the system or is it the right way up?

I think we all did that one at least once when the 500 came out first ;-)

I hope you talk for yourself Westi..:p

The only thing i had once was that I didn't look into the licences and just copied them into the IP500 anmd didn't get the expansion modules to work took me 1 hour to see the there was no licence..;-)
